    DHLA 45D setup advice.

Hi guys I'm new, I did try the search but couldn't find anything . I'm looking for a bit of advice on a starting point for my dhlas. There on a 2.0 blacktop zetec.

Currently they are DHLA 45D's from a lotus i believe.

    Choke 37mm
    main 110
    Emulsion 7772.5
Air corrector 140? It looks bigger than 1.4mm if that's what the 140 means.
    Idle 50
    Idle holder 7850.8
    Pump jet 40
    Float heights 15mm

I'm thinking the following setup as a start?

    Choke 37
    Main 150
    Emulsion 7772.5
    Air corrector 195
    Idle 50
    Idle holder 7850.1
    Pump 40

    Thanks

you are correct 140 means 1.4mm.

you already have a staring point, the jets that are already in the carbs! if they ran the lotus engine they will run your zetec.

the mains do look small, but i doubt you will need to jump to 150/190 main/air

These aren't the right settings for the original lotus. Thever been on something before. I've pulled those specs from various guides if found as a start point but I figured is such a common engine someone is probably running dhla45s on a blacktop could just tell me what there running.

I don't have the luxury of trying various ones on the rollers at the moment as my local guy is closed (he's in his 80s) . I will be having a him tune it fully in due course. But as the foreseeable looks bleak I want to still use the car and get close myself.

I have a wide band in my car, and on an initial run yesterday they were very rich on idle and slight throttle and mega lean moving into the main circuit.

My logic so far There rich at idle and part throttle, but the idle jet looks to be the leaner end for 2000cc but the holder is a very rich one. Changing to 7580.1 seems to make sense and is common it 2.0 engine setups I've found.

Another pointer is I'm only 2 turns out on the idle screws which suggests is rich in idle too It's lean in the main circuit. And the I've found a guide that suggest a 145 (36mm choke X 4 =145) I have 37mm chokes so half a size up playing it safe.

Air correctors guide is mains plus 50. So 150+50 200. I'll check these today as they look bigger than 1.4mm to me.

I found this for the lotus this morning but there about 9 or 10 different setups ant there all quite different it's also a 2100cc engine, it goes against the guides. But then these will have been set to meet emissions not just power. However I imagine the lads a lotus would know a thing or to.

just a thought, your current jets may of been drilled, if your going to drill out jets, it makes sense to drill very small ones you are never likely to use. for what its worth if a drill a jet i always file the numbers off afterwards

    Re: DHLA 45D setup advice.

    Cheers guys,

The 110 jets were 110. And the air correctors are drilled to 170.

I've got it running pretty good now. I've been abit of a butcher but hey I need new bits anyway.

I only had a 1.5 bit so the mains are now 150
The idle holders had 4x 0.5 holes in. And the 7580.1 that I want to move to has 1 x 1.4mm hole that give a orifice area of 1.5ish, so I drilled one hole to 1mm this gives me a total area of 1.3ish. (I did work it out exactly this morning just not to hand)

This has put my mixture screws between 3 and 4 turns.

My bulkhead is to close for me syncometer so the new carb tune came today. So there balanced properly now .

It's still has a blip of richness as you get lnto the throttle. Pump jets I think, not sure what to do with them at the moment But then settles and pulls nicely.

Good shout on taking the numbers off of modify ones.
