2L Black Top with DTA ECU - battery incorrectly wired, what damage have I caused?

I've just made a simple error which may have had catastrophic consequences.
I have a 2 litre Zetec black top on carbs with a DTA E48 ECU.
I got the car started using my old banner battery and it was running fine I then stopped the car and fitted my new LiFePo battery. Unfortunately I fitted the cables the wrong way round and then try to start the car. Obviously it didn't start (although it did turn over) however after about 15 seconds I noticed smoke coming from the alternator so I immediately isolated the battery.
With the cables the right way round I tried to start the car but I appear to get no spark however upon on releasing the starter key I seem to get one spark which ignites all the fuel in the exhaust.
Any advice as to how to start investigating exactly what damage I have done would be greatly appreciated.

normally decent kit has reverse polarity protection, best to search on dta site etc for specific info - it may have protection that can be reset etc.

100% the alternator is now dead, 99% so is your ecu

Disconnect alternator and remove fan belt. Engine can run a few seconds without waterpump.
See if it starts. If not the as Graham said ECU is fried.

I believe DTA's are protected against short circuits and a degree of reverse polarity but Li-Po's kick out massive current . . . . . so suggest asking on the DTA Forum!

Does the fuel pump prime on key on to indicate the ecu is in some way alive ?

Or have you any comms with the laptop ?

This was solved on the DTA forum - a reply here would have been nice though!
