Temperature Sender for 2.0 Pinto with 1600 Sport Clocks

I have a 2.0 Pinto engine in my MK2 escort with 1600 Sport Clocks fitted and I cannot get the temperature gauge to work.

The needle rises to the top when I earth the wire as it should but neither of the senders I have used make the needle move.

I first tried a sender from Burton Power (Water temperature sender (OE gauge): early SOHC Ford Pinto, X/Flow, Essex) and then one from eBay for an RS2000 but neither make the needle move.

Has anybody got any idea which sender I need to make this work?

    Thanks

Did you install the sender unit dry or wrap in in PTFE tape? if you used tape it may not be earthing through the head
