    BF134 cam

Hi all, yet another cam question!

Currently have a mk2 Escort with a pretty standard 205 pinto apart from twin 45s, a lightened flywheel and electric ignition. Looking at a bit more torque through the lower range and keeping driveability as much as i can, so thinking of going for a Burton high torque cam. I would buy a new set of followers as well as a set of springs and probably use a felpro gasket. I don't think the head has ever been skimmed so may get it lightly done to clean it up. Would I have to get the spring seats machined with this cam and if so, how much would you recommend?

    Neil.

cant answer that question, it all depends on the fitted length the you use spring requires

I see, so I will need to fit the new cam in the head and check the springs that way?<

With that lift height there is a chance that you don’t need to modify the spring seats, and even if you realize you do need a millimeter or so of extra installed height there are valve spring retainers that increases the gap.
I tried searching British websites and for some the increase is alluded to but not specified so I guess you have to call them to find out.
Here is a Swedish website that delivers a raised perch valve retainer that gave me the correct installed height with my valves.

But it’s a case of trial fit and measure.
If you have the head off, getting the spring seats modified should not be that big of a deal, especially if you are already considering having it skimmed.

Thank you. I will measure an inlet and exhaust spring gap just to be safe. Just need to find the right measurement spec.
