what carb to use with a 1600 pinto

Greetings from sunny Pakistan where our cricket team is folding to England in every test match.

Need help on another fornt. I am in the mdidle of restoration/ modification of my Mk1 escort and a Mk2 is also in the works. Anyhow the Mk1 came with an 1100 engine that I junked and got the ( to my knowledge ) only Pinto engine available in the country...Fords a few and far between....from a Mk3 Cortina on which a wall had fallen and which had to be junked.

The engine is a 1.6 Pinto. I have obtained a Piper 270 cam kit and a DCOE manifold for it but the question in my mind is whether I should get a pair of 40DCOE carburetors for it or 45DCOEs ?

Have searched high and low for information but everyone says dump the 1.6 and get a 2.0 engine. That is NOT an option. There are no modern Ford engines available...as Ford simply do not sell in Pakistan and haven't sold since rebranded Mazda 323s as Ford Lasers in the early 80s ( craven Ford of Europe and Britain ) so I have to make do with what I have which is the 1600 form the RHD Cortina. I want a torquey motor for driving daily with occasional top end sprints. I want a car that will keep at least the classics in the list below honest. The c63 is another kettle of fish altogether.

My other cars are a Cortina Mk1 with a Mazda Mx5 1600 engine transplant, An Alfa GTV6 3.0 from 1981, an Alfa GTV stepnose from 1965 with a 2.0 litre twin spark, a Porsche 912 hotrod with a 2.3 litre stroker, a Corolla 1973 coupe with a 4AGE20V blacktop with four throttle bodies. Under restoration are a Mini cooper Spi 1.3, an Escort Mk2 and a pair of Corolla KE70s a liftback and a hardtop which are both going to have the aforementioned 4AGE20V engine. Daily drivers are a BMW e60 530i and a full fat Mercedes V8 C63 AMG w204.

Thanks 40 webers it is then.

The next question is that 40DCOES will have to be obtained from abroad again and most of th ones available are Chinese copies. I dont think weber originals are an option because of cost.

What do people thing about the Chinese copies and how does one tell whether these have the cold start choke?

I am quite happy with EMPI Chinese HPMX/IDF 44 copies on my Porsche 912 which stays with 3.2 Carreras and the only trouble they give is the need for replacement diaphragms every year or two due to the infernal high ethanol E5/E10 petrol available
