Pinto Cyl. Headgasket ( VR, Felpro, Elring etc ) water holes modification

    Dear Friends,

Did you ever modify ( or have to ) modify by opening new water holes in the Pinto headgasket? I mean the additional holes as found in the YB headgasket's exhaust side of the engine?

Would this be regarded as a valid modification for the hot climates or for highish CR engines ?

As far as I know a headgasket designed for a specific engine should not be modified as it also regulates the coolant circulation but lately I have seen quite a few people doing such a mod to fight the high coolant temps at high ambient temps ( and these are all standard engines ) in our local Taunus FB pages.

So, it came to my attention and I wanted to ask your opinion on the headgasket modification.

    Regards,

no i have never done so and dont see a need.

the YB turbo is a completely different case as it puts a massive amount of head into the exhaust ports as effectively the turbo is a big restriction in the exhaust

    Hi Graham,
I have not done that headgasket modification as well.
Yes, there is a reason for the YB headgasket design.
