does anybody know where to source an inlet-manifold for Twin SU Carbs, best would be incl. Carbs for a slightly tuned 1700cc x/flow enigne?
who originally casted those manifolds / under what brand-name have they been sold?

I'm not aware of a company that did one for the xflow, only the pre x flow. It would be quite an odd and difficult to cast manifold.
I've seen home-modified ones for a single SU though.
If you want constant vacuum/depression carbs why not fit bike carbs? Same kind of principle.
because bike carbs arent a contemporary modification.
anyway...i did not want to start a discussion about carbs.
i know that such manifolds have been casted and that they are really rare.
I know of 3 or 4 people using them - one of them was in fact a twin solex manifold, which I made an adapter plate to take the SU's.
If I get a chance I'll take picks of them and post. - my mates dad also has a single SU manifold (all are made of cast aluminium)
When set up correctly it is an excellent mod that can produce a very torque'y motor.
I'm sure that I also have a cast aluminium adapter for an SU to fit on a FOMOCO manifold (Some where!)

thank you for those infos..pictures would be very helpfull. but keep in mind...i´m searching a manifold for twin-carbs.
the adapter for the fomoco manifold is also for a single carb as i guess?
yeah...and i prefer to have an engine with lots of torque, rather than top-end power...therefore an Su would be perfect!!
Yes, I'm not a big fan of SU's but this is something you can hardly beat them, good torque a very easy to drive if setup correct. They can also run very lean without spitting and popping back.
Unless you start changing camshafts. Than you get fast into trouble but that's the same for the standard Ford carb setup.
Sad they are worn out so quickly. If SU would have build them as Mikuni did, would have been one of the best carbs ever for normal road cars.
A quick search on google shows that they are/were available :
http://www.carburetion.com/LynxManifolds.asp
Look under "1600 cortina" - uses 2 x HS6 SU.
i found this page also, but i doubt that this company is still selling them...anyway i sent them an email and asked for a quotation.
a complete second hand manifold, incl. carbs, for sale somewhere in euopre, would be much better.
another question:
have found twin su manifolds but without the crossover design, means cylinder 1+2 and 3+4 are suplied by one SU carb. does this work?
I guess they will always come in 1-2 and 3-4 configuration. The picture in the link was a Crossover manifold for Weber or Dellorto, not SU. I feel it would work best. Better than the 1-2 and 3-4 design. I've seen Lynx Crossover manifolds fitted with SU's. No idea who did it. Must be a nice economic setup. But manifolds are not so cheap. I've bought one half a year ago to test a new carburetor, will check what I had to pay for it. It came from Mangoletsi.

Will have quite a rough idle due to one cylinder in the pair being affected by the other during the fuel charge phase and vice-versa.
I would use the crossover design - it was designed to eradicate intake charge problems.
As you are looking for a set-up that works lower down the rev range you should go for that one (ie the crossover) as it works in every day driving conditions. If you plan on being at higher revs frequently then go for a non-crossover set-up.
The one in the picture is a crossover for a 40 DCOE type set-up as you say but the description below mentions 2 x HS6 SU's - I would guess that as there is only the one picture and it is a crossover design then that applies to all of those listed directly below otherwise there would have been another design shown?

I guess they will have there own design but can be the crossover, who knows.
Right about the 1-2 / 3-4 setup. Is less efficient and to prevent rough idle and low torque problems all SU manifolds have a big balance pipe. I once closed this big tube with a plug and very quick found out why they use it for.
If they only produce 1-2 / 3-4 for the SU I should go for the Crossover and modify them you can fit twin SU's. Can't be to difficult.
thank you for all the advices...i had similar concerns about using a 1-2 /3-4 manifold. now i know why there is a balance pipe at my triumph powered car!!!
i also think that the homepage is misleading in some way: the top picture shows a crossover manifold, but the listing is a mix betwee crossover and "normal" manifolds...like 2 x 40DCOES...they are always mounted on a 1-2 / 3-4 design.
what i also found out: with twin-SU´s a crossover manifold seems not existing.....its a 1-2 / 3-4 design with a balance pipe...watch this:
this manfild recently sold for 90,-australian $ at ebay...on 5th february!!! damn!!!!

keep the cam mild and you wont have charge robbing issues
Correct, that's the big trick I was using in MG's years ago. Fit a cam with wider lobes. Use high rocker ratio's instead of more duration.
Very nice casting from Lynx. If there would be enough ask, I could have it recast. But minimum order is always 200 pieces. Anyone????? Maybe it still exist ?
1 piece for me.....so we need to find "only" another 199 potenital buyers....
Here's some pic's of one of my mates SU (Stromberg) manifolds
are those for sale?? yes...please sent a PM.
my emails to http://www.carburetion.com/LynxManifolds.asp have not been replied, by the way.
[QUOTE=alfas;2027477]are those for sale?? yes...please sent a PM.
I can only ask !
yeap..please do that for me....thanx in advance!!
sorry no, they aren't for sale!!
I think this might be a cortina setup?? I will get hold of an intake gasket and compare it to the ports. This is for sale ex Brisbane Australia, but I can post with or without carbs. First I had better make sure of what it fits.
looks like the one i search.....sent you PM
I went to Repco and got an intake gasket set for the 1.1 / 1.3 / and 1.6 litre Cortina motors and everything lines up, confirming it will fit. The intake gaskets come with the setup now. If there is no interest on the forum I'll list it on ebay next week. Check my feedback on ebay under "valnut51" Cheers.
didnt you got my PM?
i'm interested, but please sent me a quotation about price and shipping as a reply to my PM.
thank you in advance.
^^ It's possible he can't send PM's as he is a new member.
oh....that might be the reason....so how can i get in contact with him?
Try contact him via ebay:

yep....after my last posting i also had the idea with ebay....and here we go....we are in contact!!!
carbs&manifold arrived mid of last week!!!
the choke linkage was missing...anybody knows where to get?
pics when fitted please
oh...this will take time...i have so many projects that fitting those carbs may be postponed to autumn / winter time
first i need the linkage for the choke
Are you still looking for a Ford X-Flow inlet-manifold for Twin SU Carbs? I have an inlet manifold (never used) + twin SU carbs (used) & K&N airfilters (never used). They've been in storage in my loft for 25-years. They were for a project car i was working on, but the car was stolen before i got round to fitting the the twin carbs.
Let me know if you're interested, I can send you pictures etc..
hi andy...i sent you PM.
there is one offered at ebay in uk at the moment....item location aylesbury...must be you, i guess? steep price.
Bit of a thread revival. Looking for a manifold for SU carbs for a Crossflow please.
Thanks
Mike
