NA Cosworth 2.4 conversion - help needed
Hello all,
I am thinking of converting my 2.1 ltr NA Cosworth to a 2.380.
The Cosworth is in my RS2000 Escort MK2 and is used for rallying.
What I have done sofar: I have made an engineblock with steel liners and I have bought a regrinded crankshaft with 45mm big end. According to the seller it should have a 84mm stroke.
I am thinking about buying a pair of custom made Woesnner pistons. With a diameter of 95mm and 22mm piston competition hight. Including a set of custom made con rods with a size of 147 / 148mm.
What do you guys think, am I on the right track? Or is it just fantasy...? I am worried about the strength and reliability of the engine. Advice and thoughts are more then welcome!
Regards from Holland,
Robert

Back in the Nineties I had a NA Mk 2 Escort, 93mm Bore and 84 mm Stroke Crankshaft. The Capacity of that Engine was 2281cc, to get 2381cc you`ll need a Crankshaft with a Stroke of 88mm. 94 mm Bores with a 84mm Stoke will give a Capacity of 2330cc
John Wilcox Engines did a Kit with Crank, Rods and Pistons with the above Capacity.

Graham,
I couldn't stop noticing what you said about the un-linered block. Do you mind telling us, in your point of view, the pros/cons of this operation. I didn't put liners in my 2.05ltr pinto but, after knowing some motorsport guys do it and say the pinto's cast iron blocks will easilly wear and get oval in no time, I couldn't stop feeling maybe I should have done it. Even more so, knowing i'm using slipper type pistons/rods.
What are your thoughts on this?
Cheers and thanks,
Mário Santos.
p.s. - Robert, sorry for hijacking your thread. Just thought we might learn something here from Graham's experience.
