Memory Wanted
I have just been given a computer for home and now find myself in a position to look in the mens room once more after about 3 months!
Trouble is its a wee bit slow an ols so I was wonderin if anyone had any old/spare memory or hard drives etc lying around.
Preferably for the same price as I paid for the computer but anything cheap!! WHY??

Re: Memory Wanted
Right then I have just had a look at this thing and as I am not a computer teckie I am going to explain as I see!!!
The mother board is a TXpro III PCI chipset ???
The processor is an IDT Winchip C6 " 200mhz ???
Memory car is a S3 Virge/dx - 65536K ???
As for what type of plug ins it accepts I haven't a clue! There are two black trips and one is taken up by the modem. These have roughtly 50 induvidual slots! - Then there are 4 white slots. One has the memory card in which in turn has the monitor plugged in?? The other 3 have about 60 odd pins which are smaller than that of the Black slots!
PHEW!
Does any of that make sense??? Prob not

Re: Memory Wanted
Clint,
I have 2 x 168 Pin DIMMS slots and both are currently filled with 32Mb cards.
Plus there are 4 x 72 pin SIMMS which are empty but apparently hard to come by.

Re: Memory Wanted
Sorry m8 just noticed this post.
Get the 168 pin DIMMS and you only need one to upgrade.
Matched pairs are only needed on the small 72 pin slots -leave them empty.

Re: Memory Wanted
I was given 2 16bit 78 pin SIMMS the other day and added them and now I have 98mb of memory... I was told that the two different types of memory wouldn't work together but they seem fine!

Re: Memory Wanted
They will work fine Kieron, but be aware that the 2 "banks" of memory will run at different speeds, but it's not a problem.
The reason you need 2 SIMM's (Single Inline Memory Module) is on the Pentium motherboard, the system bus is 64 bit wide. Therefore, the 32 bit SIMMs are installed in pairs. NOTE: never use different speed RAM modules on the Pentium motherboard. All modules must have the same speed.
A DIMM (Dual Inline Memory Module) is 64 bit, so only one is required.

Re: Memory Wanted
That's a result Kieron
I have tried before but not found a board where both types will work together.
