A question about pinto head and inlets.

Hi all !! I'm Xavi from Barcelona, Spain. I'm upgrading my Capri's pinto engine.

I've a stock botton end rebuilt and I'm going to upgrade to Efi & electronic ignition, Kent FR34 cam, Sierra efi head, Ashley 2" header & line , vernier pulley, and some other usual items... The head has been ported and skimmed 1mm for a reputable builder and still has stock exh&inlet valves with 3 angle seats.

I expect more or less 130HP with all these parts, but the question is, is worth upgrade to big inlet valves or with this setup is not worth the money i've to invest for the improve in power I'll obtain ?

Thanks in advance for your replies or advices.

    Kind regards,

    Xavi.

Hi, not worth the money and effort in my opinion.

whether you decide the cost is worth it is another matter, BUT at any state of tune big inlet valves are worth having in a pinto, the head flow so poorly as std that even a poor big valve conversion increases flow considerably, there is no down side to having bigger inlets

What's the approx max power on std valves with a decent ported head?
And how much does that sort of head work cost?

Good night fellas ! thanks for your replies.

Well, money isn't a problem if is spent in a good improvement so if i can get a significantly gain I'll go in that direction. Burton's 45,5 inlets are correct for my specs ?

Taking advantage your knowledge, what head gasket is good for my engine (remember it's 1mm skimmed) I also need a new press and clutch kit, anyone recomended that would not slip on hard conditions?

    Thanks in advance

depends on cam, compression and carburetion as to how much power you can get.

as for cost again it depends on a lot of things, if you buy an off the shelf head from say vulcan or burtons at around £600, you will be paying for a lot of work to of gone into polishing bits that wont make any difference as well as paying for a lot of new bits that may not be needed. i prefer to do only what has to be done so your looking at more like £300-£400

Just wondering because I have a pinto, I *think* it's higher compression (bought it already built), 40s, fast road cam but I'd like a bit more power from it maybe 150ish?

do you know what it makes now? 40's tend to limit them to around 140-150 bhp

Re: A question about pinto head and inlets.

i have a ported head im about to advertise. it wasnt done by me, i believe it was done by lyndales of peterborough, its not the best head out there but a definite improvement

its a ported non injection head, it has unleaded inserts, thin wall guideliners, heavy duty single valve springs. 46cc chambers
i have stripped it given it a clean , lapped the valves and fitted new stem seals.

i shall be asking £300 plus postage, your not far away so you could come take a look at it if you want

    Thank you.

At the moment I'm just considering options because I have got a duratec in bits I'll be sticking in eventually just once I save up for all the conversion bits.
