    I got one of these ..... http://www.amazon.co.uk/HAND-HELD-BR.../dp/B00C3CG5Q6

I paid about £35 delivered and its BRILLIANT!!! Its is sooooo easy to use either off car or in situ that I wouldn't want to try anything else. I've used proper garage kit donkey years ago and this produces flares equally as good. Not sure what it works like on steel pipe but for soft annealed copper its tops!

Another vote for the Sykes Pickavant kit here. Makes it very easy to get great flares.

Sykes pickavant is one of the best but the one that KATANA is pretty good and you can do original steel pipes to.

    Re: brake pipe tool

The old mechanical Sykes you put into the Vise are probably the best about.

But their Flaremaster 2, handheld unit is also excellent.

There are cheaper alternatives, but depends how much you intend to use it, and material you want to work with.

Few cheap ones will do much with steel pipes, only softer metals like copper. Some really cheap will even struggle with kunifer.

    Re: brake pipe tool

This is the one ive been using for the last 8-10 years.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Clarke-CHT22.../dp/B0051T8IH2

Its one of the cheapest nastiest ones available, but it does a OK job with kunifer pipe, you don't need a vise to use it so it can be done on the car.
Ive done 3 full cars with it, and a few odds and sods here and there with it, including flaring fuel and oil lines, i use the pipe cutter tool that comes in the box regularly for other jobs too.

Is it as good as the ones the boys above have recommended?, absolutely not!
But if you only use it every few years it'll do the job.

    Re: brake pipe tool

The sp vice one can be used with a big shifter to do steel pipe on the car makes it easy as hell instead of the handheld one slipping down the pipe and either not flaring fully or even at all driving you mad and that's with a 2 post lift never mind on stands
