'J' Black FRST, not been on the road since 1999

    Hi Guys

I found this recently, did a deal and bought it home. Yes I will probably sell it, but haven't had a play car in a while so the plan is to get it running nice etc

    Black, 1991 Fiesta RS Turbo
Owners, 1991-1994, 1994-1995, 1995 until yesterday when I bought it

The owner has misplaced the paperwork due to a house move, but thinks he may find it and I will keep in touch with him. It was last started 3 years ago, but now it doesn't start as the pump isn't priming.

It appears to be very solid, it needs bits and pieces but I don't think it needs any welding, arches are great.

    Here are some pics.

    This was how it sat:

    Then bringing it home:

And after a quick wash outside and how it sits now:

    No doubt a fuel
Pump relay and it'll fire right up! Or inertia switch. Common! Nice find, looks very unmolested! Rare sight

Cheers mate, where is the Inertia switch? The fuel pump has a live all the way to the pump from the ignition, it's been played with before.

Re: 'J' Black FRST, not been on the road since 1999

The guy bought it in 1995, he took it off the road in Summer 1999 and drove it once round the block every year, but even that wasn't done until 2010.

Ive got a new radiator and fuel pump en route so wont be long before it's running, totally standard too apart from the exhaust

They're in the passenger footwell bud. Boot in xr3i and erst's fiestas have them in pas footwell. Sort that and it'll fire right up! Anotger common fault once you get fuel is the crank sensor plug, if you find you have no spark, that's be tge first thing I'd check.

There's a black box next to the fuel
Pump, check for an earth there. You get a live direct to the fuel
Pump? No Relay in between? I you
Got live at the pump, just double check for an earth,

Re: 'J' Black FRST, not been on the road since 1999

Yes mate on the fuel pump connector there are 5 wires, 3 thin 2 thicker, I am assuming the thins are for the sender and thick for the pump, the tick wires are + and - when the ignition is on, when ignition is off the + goes, there are 2 wires in the fuse box going to the ignition barrell from the fuel pump fuse so someone has been playing.
Also, if I power the pump with my probe it doesn't do anything.

Whats this black box and where abouts is it?

    Thanks for your help

Best bet, if you got 12v and ground, drop the tank and prob aroun with the pump prOb been sat bone dry and dried up. Easy job providing nothing's too siezed!

Re: 'J' Black FRST, not been on the road since 1999

Cheers mate, I have an uprated pump coming so will drop the tank when it arrives so if the pump doesn't work Ive got the new one to fit

Then I can figure out why the relays been bypassed after it;s running, how comes you know so much about them?

Re: 'J' Black FRST, not been on the road since 1999

The black box is inside the tank, you'll see a red and black coming off the pump, into the box, then out the box to the fuel
PumP plug. At least from what I remember they're red and black. Anyway, thats what usually give up the ghost with those pumps. I have bypassed it before, not a wise idea tho but it worked. I can't remember what it did though? I think it was a suppressor? Make sense maybe!? Ha! The relays always went, expecially with the mfi rst's in the s1 and 2 escorts. I almost always rewired tge fuel pump system. Very simple.

Re: 'J' Black FRST, not been on the road since 1999

I spent hours with it today and the guy from the body shop. The car has had paint, and the front right wing changed but the rest is all original but more importantly the shell is absolutely mint, body shop guy couldn't believe it.

The tanks out, waiting for my pump to arrive and I cleaned it today, fingers crossed it runs when it's all back together.

PS. Does anyone know what exhaust this is, it has plaques on it and a couple of silencers

    .
I'm going to sell the car on, but in the mean time until it goes I will carry on making it better.

The car now starts, idles, drives etc all as it should and it doesn't smoke one bit.

Here are a few pictures from today:

Yep dropped the tank and replaced the pump, 4 bolts holding tank up and one for filler pipe, one electrical connection and 2 fuel lines, easy job I did it on the floor.
