pinto mk1
ok chaps,
i`m gonna be getting all the bits ready to put a pinto into my mk1..i have an engun..(free!!)
what i`m wondering is what are my options with regard to gearbox..i know the obvious is type 9 with a ally bellhousing(rs) but is that the only route to take...i`m not bothered about putting a big tunnel in etc.
also what else other than engun mounts will i need
cheers lads

Re: pinto mk1
Hi mate,
depends what engine your taking out of the car. If your taking out a x-flow you'll need new mounts or a complete new world cup x-member.
Typr 9 is the easiest way to go. You'll also need a new starter

Re: pinto mk1
exhaust, fuel pipe rerouting, electrics on the other side, is your rad full sized like the rs rad or a little xlow one if its the xflow one your want to fit an rs2k one meaning cutting the lower front x member? new water pipes, new throttle cable gearbox lowering mounts

Re: pinto mk1
Chris,
There is a guide to this coming out in classic ford soon m8, it was photographed at my garage on Gompo's car.
Lower front x-member doesn't need cutting on a MK1, slam panel does a small bit though.
You can use a standard sierra bellhousing if you want, you will need a sump though, unless you have a RACE x-member and it may then fit with the sierra/cortina steel one (haven't tried this yet but Dingy7 has been fitting standard cossie sumps with em so should be about the same dimensions)
