Strip down reveals hidden problems! In the end cut a slot in head and large flat screw-drivered out!

Yokes back together, spent a whole Saturday cleaning alloy of top yoke, didn't get a before and after shot but came out a little better for some TLC.
NB: can just see simple stand made to support front end whilst removed,... kept getting tangled in the ropes!

Forks polish. Were ok in general, needed the chrome innards flashing over in the lathe to take off tiny edges of pitting. If building a road bike would have re-chromed but no need for track.

At the Silverstone Moto GP (2014) a friend took us into the Martec Garage (thanks Philio). In the rubbish bin found a pair of handlebar grips with a tiny cut,.... guess where your going,....

Good enough for Moto2, good enough for NSR!!

Look at the bloody size of that bleed nipple, not the usual jap-crap for sure. Impressed with this little bike (the Honda bits)!

Sent off for powder-coat. Trim back paint edges and clean inside seal groove with little brass wire wheel in Dremil. Clean, add new seals, little red grease and 'cleaned in lathe' pistons. Pistons had slight corrosion on edge where exposed, but cleaned ok,... could not find new ones anywhere for the small piston 25mm diam not 27?

Fully re-built.
Will leave off plastic dust covers, have been painted so many times were twice as this as original. After some time messin, thought look better without!

The only part of original bodywork to keep will be the front mudguard. 2 cracks at rear mounting holes needing a little surgery.

Never really had the patience for good painting, but thought would have a crack at this little item. After much wet+dry, 3 coats of primer applied in my home spraybooth (back garden under security light).

3 coats of VW Mars Red and 2 clear coat. End result nice but sprayed in garage () and everything apart from bike is pink (even my boots).
New brake hoses were my Bday prezzy, thanks Trig!

Re-furb disks,.... why sooooo much paint by previous owners? Didn't realise were alloy centres,... lots of tickling with brass wire wheel in drill.

Fitted and wire locked. Cant get my head around the fact the Nissin logo is on the inside, after a twisted noodle and re-checked several times (including original bike photos) is correct!

Moving onto fuel tank, been putting off for some time. Has a slight fuel leak even though previous owned treated inside. These tanks corrode at the point in the centre where water runs off. Decided to grind off paint and take a closer look. With paint off some very small holes evident in steel.

At first tried to run lead solder into the holes, but after messing with flux and different guns could not get temp correct. Filled tank with water and set about brazing the lip up. Even with a very low flame was evident steel had tiny corrosion holes running all through bottom edge. Have fully brazed now and water tight, could be dressed back but not 100% confident!

good stuff
These NSR tanks arnt cheap but a few months ago spotted on the Bay for £40. Great outside but internal surface rust showing. So filled with White Vinegar, lots of small M-Steel fastenings various sizes, bubble wrapped to small pallet then left in my mates van for 4 weeks. After sloshing about for that time, cut it out of the wrapping!
NB: made some plastic bungs to seal tank fully!

First inspection the rust had turned into brown goo, but looking closer had shed all rust 'flakes' from inside tank. Washed out to reveal huge pile of rust!! Remove small bolts with stick-light magnet.

When fully cleaned out and all open edges rust free treated tank to new filler! Paint generally OK and after quick polish up I think will keep this paint scheme going forwards??

When fully cleaned up treated tank to new filler cap. Once polished outside paint OK, think ive revealed the paint scheme going forwards Red, White & Blue!!

Some brush finishing and 'vent angling' going on! Not a performance gain but feels and looks better.
