Swindon 2l's were making over 300hp in race tune too, your never gona expect to get that sort of power by bolting together off the shelf kits.

my mate had a 235bhp xe on 48s and a T5 dog box, and long story short it was junk, always going wrong and that was with a glebe gear kit. just a point to beware of with a dog box as well as he found out the hard way "NO MATTER HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING, IF YOU MISS A SPIRITED GEARCHANGE AND HIT FIRST GEAR, IT WILL ENGAGE AND PUT YOU IN A WORLD OF PAIN FINANCIALLY BY BUZZING THE MOTOR AND IF YOUR UNLUCKY LIKE HE WAS IT PUT ROD THRU BOTH SIDES OF BLOCK AND SUMP" i also run a JRE Xe on jenveys with 238bhp and a T9 synchro box and its just been for a rebuild after 4 rallys. I know of top spec 2.0L engines which only made the 290 mark but you will need dry sump and ask yourself if you want the expense for a fast road car come odd track day
Spot on....I did it myself, hit 1st instead of 3rd with a 4speed dog box and kissed 15 valves. Learned my lesson though, a dog box is the way to go for big power XE's though.
yep been there myself, redlined 4th, went for 5th got 3rd, game over, luckily despite ecu tell tale showing 10,000 rpm id only bent the exhaust valves
Seems like we've all been down this route, I was 8500 but with hydraulic lifters that locked up, was in a Westfield with the air filter out the side of the bonnet, saw a puff of smoke out the filter and knew it was game over. That was my first dog box lesson. You can't beat them for strength though.
need regular maintainence tho and for the price of a dog box you could possibly source a 2nd hand sequential
Just for interest, I run a 300HP Duratec with a Mazda RX7 turbo box, changing at 8,500 RPM.
It's as sweet-as, never missed a change and has been doing it for 5 race seasons without a spanner on it.
Mazda racers down under say they are pushing up-to 600HP through theirs and they still don't break.
It's all alloy, quite slim /compact, has a removable bell housing, and the gearshift can be easily moved to suit the hole in your tunnel.
Some good CR kits are also available.
Yeah there are a few guys on here fitting Rx8 boxes too, seem to be getting popular. Your always gona get more transmission losses with helical gears though, by the time you fit a gear kits your just as pricey as a decent type 9. If I had the money I'd fit a Tractive or Quaife sequential. I'm only running around 200hp so a type 9 pro quaife does the job. I ran an Sl72 Tran x dog box on my XE Escort. Never let me down once.
They were building the Vauxhall BTCC engines during the Cleland years and won often so I don't doubt the figures, race tune though....mega revs
btcc cars had a mandatory 8500 rpm rev limit, without it there would of been some mental rpm used by some
The pickup truck series had some mental XE's on 48's too, they were around 280hp, sealed Swindon engines too I think, got a soft spot for XE's, they have a signature solid lifter sound from the top end. Love them. If I wasn't hillclimbing I'd have one in a sec.
btcc vauxhalls were not any more than 290 david had an ex one in his hillclimb car,a lot of mods to get there buy the looks of it too as in recast inlet trac angles.it went the same way as grahams one and broke the crank, expensive pile of poo best left std
ok great thanks for info.
I have an early XE in my mk2, fully worked coscast head,1612's, verniers, twin 48's, MBE, SBD manifolds,ARP's.
207@ wheels.
Running a Type 9 quaiffe HD SCCR Box.
had no issues at all.
runs 7900rpm in every gear
Here's the video of it on the rolling road at Hitec road and race. watch to the end and you see the dyno readout screen.

I know of xes with 290bhp with std cranks
Hi mate are you selling the adapter plates as I've got a 300bhp c20let in my kit car and am looking to get a better gearbox and am looking at the Mazda rx8 gearbox
