T3/T4 turbo.. choosing the right one..

Hi, im about halfway through my mk2 escort cossie conversion and im thinking about buying a bigger turbo for the engine.

    It's basically a standard 2wd cossie with a 4x4 manifold a stage 3 chip, green injectors and a 3 bar map snesor.

I'm from Australia and ive been looking at a few turbos that are for sale on ebay aus. I dont really know anything about a/r ratios and what not..

I want a turbo that isn't going to be very laggy. What do you guys think about this the spec of this turbo.. or isnt the description detailed enough ?

    T3/T4 - T04E Turbo Charge !
    Great Turbo - 450~550 HP
    *Good balanced*
    Turbo T3/4 .5 front .63 rear -
Great spool up on 2l motors eg RB20 SR 20 -
    Great upgrade for RB25 .
Can be supplied with internal wastegate

    or what about this one..

    TamKO T3/T4 600HP TURBO

The T3 / T4 TamKO Turbo are custom matched for specific applications. Airflow ratings to
600 HP. Consists of a T3 turbine section, (standard, Stage II or Stage III trim) and a T4 compressor section (T04 trim).

The turbo offers the low inertia and fast boost response of the light weigt T3 Turbine wheel and the high airflow characteristics of the T4 compressor. Air flow rating of up to 600HP

3" Inlet Diameter : 2" outlet : Wet Floating Bearings : 1/8 NPT oil inlet
    T3 Flange : Fits T3 and T3/T4 Manifolds
    Specs: . 50 a/r compressor .63 a/r turbine .57 trim
    Turbine wheel:
    Exducer: 2.48"
    Mayor : 2.89"

    Compressor wheel :
    Exducer: 2.07"
    Mayor : 2.36"

I thought 600hp would be a bit optimistic from a turbo that size ??

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Damion

im using a super t70 turbo on my mk1 escort cossie. it has a 4" inlet, ar70 compressor, .84 exhaust housing and has twin roller bearings. it also runs a 40mm external wastegate.

How laggy is it on your car ? I have a mate running a super T70 (not sure if its roller bearing tho) on his rb20 skyline and it doesnt get boost until 5400rpm !

Did you get a custom exhaust manifold made becoz of the external wastegate ?

    Thanks.

Re: T3/T4 turbo.. choosing the right one..

your better off with a t38 turbo will do the same job as a t4 but the t38 is less laggy and is less stressfull unlike the t4 which is,and will produce the same amount of power too or more
also to stop the lag problem run two dump valves or get a twin port actuator wastegate which opens up a bit early down the rev's etc
as fore the two dump valves it should keep the the turbo spall up long for the gas to exit quicker
    mrk 2 mondeo ghia saloon

    fast road cams/obx pulleys
drop 30mm eibach springs mongoose catback exhaust
    4.1 ceramic coat exhaust manifold
    custom down pipe/highflow cat

    list to do :-
st bodykit 300mm disc conversion+rear disc
underdrive pulley custom management 45mm throttle bodies gasflown big valve head
    comp ratio increased 11:1

Re: T3/T4 turbo.. choosing the right one..

arr cool, I just want to know if its going to be laggy or not. If a T70 starts making boost at 2500rpm i dont think ill have a problem.

My T4 makes good boost at 3750rpm and holds till the redline at 8k rpm, at 26PSI it made 425HP and 418lb/ft at the rollers with standard cams.
