Gear Reduction Starter Motors

They are back in, the gear reduction starter motors for SOHC (pinto) engines

These are 1.4KW gear reduction starters, brand new and ready to turn over the highest compression race motor you have.

Other starters avalible from elsewhere are only 1KW, your standard starter is 0.7-0.8 Kw and cost around £50, those 1Kw ones go for around £215.
These new ones are avalible to TS members at £180 +P&P (around £10)

Now work it out, a 0.2 Kw increase for £150+ over a standard starter, these ones give you a further increase of power of 0.4Kw at a reduction in cost over the others avalible.... Got to be a bargain.

Turned the engine over as if there was no compression - very impressed and small enough to remove with everything in place

Cheers Gary for sorting me one of these out, with 11:1 compression it was a pain to turn the engine over, but now its as if the spark plugs aren't in. These starters are the nuts, its been said before but they are definatly worth every penny.

Got one this weekend well pleased worth every penny. had problems for last 7 years all ok now.

Where is the gear reduction? Aren't they usualy offset geared?

Yep your having a blonde moment... the offset ones are are normally the jap ones, like nippon denso ...

These have lickle gears that revolve around the shaft ... like an Air Drill ...

It looks very much like a standard starter motor. The gear reduction starter motor (called high-speed starter motor) we use here are adapted from Jap units, Nippon Denso I guess. I hate it because whenever I start the engine, people ask whether I have a Jap turbo engine in the Escort

Thats the idea... these fit no problem as they are the same or smaller than some of the original starters..

I'm also trying to convince him to make 9 tooth pinions for x-flows

Have to say these starters definately do the buisiness.
Steve always does all my starters and alternators and I'm always impressed.

Can you get these for A Series ?, my 1399 runs 250 psi compression and is a bitch to start, she wont even turn with the clutch in

they are called sun and planet gears, battery powered drills use them as do auto boxes and overdrives

The engine's running quite a lot of compression now so it would make things a lot easier - only ones I've seen before are about twice the size of the standard one so nooo good
