View Full Version : alex ribbens mk2 escort
here's some info on my car as requested by gary@retro
the car was bought back in 1998 for £50 as an mot failure it was a horrible beige colour but had only done 53000miles with two owners it only needed a headlight ,brake line and very small patch on outersill to pass it,s mot .
i had at that point been helping roger burgess sort out his newly aquired sprint car and decided i would turn my escort it a sprint/race car
lots and lots of money later the car got finished ,i sprinted for acouple of seasons then decided to race and was told the trc series was the one to do and so i began first year found myself in class a due to the rules not allow 5linked cars first 3 overall
last year completed in every round normally just managing to hold mr pipe in his clean yellow escort ,was do very well with the class (now d) title going down to the last race were i unfortunally got involed in an accident ,so i fininshed 2nd overall
the car as now
engine 2.0 litre pinto ,big vavle head kent ht1 cam ,forged piston unkown make ,steel rods all lighten and balanced along with the crank and light weight flywheel 4blade paddle clutch running with moddified dizzy and twin 48 webers producing 187.3 bhp
gearbox quaife pro 5speed
english axle 4.4 diff tranx lsd
gaz adjustable front struts
adjustible tca,s ,eccentric top mounts
2.2 quick rack and rs 2000 arb
wilwood 285 disc kit at front
sierra rear disc at rear
avo rear shocks
5linked rear end
running on 15"revolution rfx avon slicks and yoko ao32r for wet

thats a proper escort:thumb: its driven properly aswell most of the time:D
yes indeed. I was gutted when i saw the accident at Brands last year :(
Didn't realise you were running an english either Alex!
yep it still runs an english axle and fingers crossed it hasn't broke yet!,the car is all back together again all ready for the season to start, so lets see if the old cars can give some of the modern kit a run for there money, also must say a big thank you to my bro for all the work in helping me get the car back together and all the work he does with me on it through the years

nice neons al:D
Do they suffice as lights as per dtrc regs? I was wondering what to use:confused:
i hope so ,the regs say the car must have forward facing lights in postion of original lights ,lots of cars last year used household downlighters(12v) bike lights .i decide not to refit the 7"sealed beams as i broke 4 last year manly through stone chips hope this gives you some idea

Hi Alex, great to see your car back in one piece, looks really smart
Only just spotted this thread as Richard branson decided to not only deprive me of Sky but also my broadband :wall: :fight:
Anyway, car looks great Alex, still miss my Gp2 bodykit. Hopefully you'll see mine out this year too  so should be plenty of escys putting the wind up the modern stuff

for me your car is the real spirit of the championship,
DIY and hard graft at home rather than big bucks

it,s been along time coming ,only done the shoot last april and since then theres been a few changes will have to try and find a copy now
nice feature,where was it at?
the photo's were taken just round the corner from my house , a bit naughty as the car isn't road legal and was on slicks at the time . the police did drive by but didn't bother us

Well done on saturday Alex (7th April) A win to start the season off must have lifted you to cloud nine  And then the unfortunate oil cooler breakage that kept you from starting the second race bringing you back down, but you kept laughing and smiling ... well done. :thumb:
And your face in the morning as we all knelt before you chanting " we are not worthy " was a picture :lmao:
(I never did get that signed copy though :D )

Can't wait to see you Andy and Greg all out together again like last year, will be some cracking racing again, always very close and very fair.
Plus we can't let the front wheel drive boys have it all their own way can we? C'mon the escorts

Great job all year Alex, still think the cars need to be the same colour to avoid all the paint swapping and t-cutting (joke :D ) but as gary says I'm looking forward to seeing more of the same next season (albeit in my rearview mirrors:tongue:)
