    Police Priority's ?

I was having a gossip up the school with my mate this morning and what a story she told me

The first week of the six week holiday her son was playing football when some bloke approach him and asked him to play some football for him.
The next day he turned up again at the football pitch where her son was playing . He said he had bought him a special energy drink that would help him play better Luckily he didn't take the drink. Also he mentioned that he had been sent down from leeds football club as a talent scout and he was very interested in him as he was a good football player. Even pretended to be on the phone to the manager of leeds football club.
Well my mates boy went home and told her what had happened the first two days and said that he was going to meet him at the football pitch 1:30 the next day to take him to leeds Well my mate couldn't believe what she was hearing and phoned the police. They came round check out all the details this bloke had given and they all turned out to be false (no surprise there) They said they would be at the football pitch to see if they could get the bloke as he was obviously up to no good. Well two days later she phoned the police as she hadn't heard anything, and she couldn't believe what she heard, Apparently they didn't have the man power to send a car out to see if the bloke turned up or not I have told her to go to the papers with her story, whether she will or not i dont know. I was absolutley gobsmaked when she told me

I'd have found some of my own man power and waited for him at the pitch...

oh my god, sharon, thats awful! is your mate and her boy ok? this may seem silly, but if u cant rely on the police to help you in a crisis then who can u go to?! the police in my area are crap, they are never around when there has been a problem.

And i bet there would have been enough police then to come and arrest you for assault or something like, while the perv would end up walking away scott free.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here, but a crime hasn't actually been committed. Why should tax payers money be spent on what is essentially hearsay?

I'm more concerned that the child spoke to the man in the first place.

You could say that but you could also say prevention is better than cure, I mean isnt tht what the police are here for?

    Re: Police Priority's ?

What a scary place to live in if you can only report something once it has happenend. Lets just hope this nonce doesn't pick on a more gullible child and we end up reading about another wasted young life in the papers.
If my kids told me something like that I would be straight onto the police and I wouldn't stop until they turned up. Assuming its not an urban myth (dont mean to cause offence for suggesting that but even my own mother in-law once swore blind one of her mates had brought a penguin home from the zoo cos another mate told her, anyone remember that story??) I hope your friend does go to the papers and gives them all the details and that an investigation is carried out.

My kids know better than to talk to strangers, this child was playing football with the man.

Edit - Thinking about it more, the child was playing football with the man, maybe the man was trying to impress said child by saying he was a scout for Leeds? I'm not saying the event never happenend, I'm trying too look at objectively and not automatically going down the tabloid route where every stranger that talks to a child is a child molester.

Im just commenting here not meaning anything by it but some kids arent as wise as others, the man did give false details and was saying he was going to take him away to leeds, there is every chance he will take a kid someday if this is the way he is saying to someones kid, and then everyone will be saying why wasnt something done to stop him, just my opinion tho

This raises another question - how did the man give details? paper? if so then there should be fingerprints which were given to the police (I hope). Verbally? chances are high the child got the details wrong in the first place.

If the police believed this was a serious risk then they would have attended.

This sounds very fishy to me.

Would it have killed them to send someone to talk to the guy and check him out if he turned up? Its not like it was going to be a full blown stakeout.
