More bad news, noticed today the boot has been dented and cracked and the filler in the bumper has sunk, so it needs to be redone

    but...

    i now have a garage!

oh and the workbenches and shelves have migrated from the old workshop/shed project that happened

    another angle (i spy a cage )

final angle... whats that? a pit?! with lights and power and everything!?

    Re: Fiesta D-TEC

    well some more progress

started to take front panel off the other night

    finished it yesterday

then refitted the nicely wrapped exhaust

have to have it lined up properly though, it will get a tweak when the manifold gets made

    Re: Fiesta D-TEC

    more progress!

so, got the engine and gearbox out

got a brand new front panel

    have started to fit it

its held in with bolts through to welded on nuts in the slam panel

modded the slam panel slightly, folded back the bracket, and rewelded it to give more clearnce for the t/b's

pretty pleased with my welder / welding, still fine tuning it and learning but going well so far. not bad for a first attempt.

oh yeah, the mk1 is home! first time its been driven since november

    LIGHT - WEIGHTING

so after some thought, i've decided to strip the interior of everything but the dash and front door cards in a bid to shed weight.

this morning, i got the car back on its wheels

so its ready to be taken for the manifold, but whilst i've got time, i made a start

took the rear half of the interior and started to remove all of my sound deadening and the stuff ford applied

    leaving me with this:

    and this:

which i've weighed at close to 20kgs and theres still loads to go!

    also removed the false floor:

which is 18mm MDF so a good weight saving

(False Floor is now for sale, collection only)

    plan for tomorrow:

finish of removing sound deadening at the back, take out headlining and front interior

i plan to, once its all stripped, clean it down and give it a lick of paint inside before the cage goes in

I normally think of modern fiestas and 'changes' with chavs. you've made a really nice job of this and obviously spent a lot of time and money doing the job correctly. Nice work.

(get saving if you want a mk1 escort, prices keep on going up )

    Re: Fiesta D-TEC

yeah, i know a lot of people dont like the mk4

i wanted to prove that it can be made to actually look good

and i wanted to steer clear of the conversion that everyone does (puma engine)

for years i was planning to fit a blacktop zetec, but then the ST150 came out and i thought it was silly not to try the duratec

cant wait for it to be finished, this has drained me financially, psysically and mentally

i've been accused of being a boy racer in the past, but hope that once i roll this car out, people will see me and the car for what we really are

i know i could have spent the money i've spent on this on just a fast car, but where's the fun in that? i know once done, i'll have a very unique car, and it should be an animal too

Fantastic car mate, really very impressed! Lovely to see a more modern car that's normally turned into a chavmobile being properly tuned and sorted

btw, looking at where your alternator install is, my bro wouldn't be able to run that at all, as his dry sump pump is exactly where it is.

    cheers mate

not a problem, i'll just keep trying to flog it, i'm sure someone will have it

Front alternator bracket and front tensioner, where did you get those from?
I'll be needing these for my Mk1 Fiesta Duratec.

i can supply you witht the alternator, brackets, bolts and belt if you're interested. i have two different sized alternator pulleys too, one is classed for the 2.3 but might be useful to adjust alternator running speed.

the other bits are available either through burton power or cosworth directly

the other parts of the kit are a slightly larger but lightweight water pump and obviously the tensioner

when you order the tensioner, be sure to mention that you'll be fitting throttle bodies as they're machined to give clearance to the flanges etc

i know you're planning on fitting the roller barrels, but again if you speak to cosworth they should know what works best.

    Cars Back!

    Here's the manifold!

    (manifold split for easier fitting/removal)

again, joins for ease of fitting/removal, and the 4-1 collector

    join to current system

the pipe bore is going to be too small for the 2.0 by at least a half inch, but due to decat and straight through system, this will do until i can afford to get a proper system

they said it will be easy to open up the collector and build me a race spec system

oh, and the mk1 is a bit lower and on some 13" steels now
