it also shows the quality of the base car, being in such good condition , that these parts fit well. nothing like fitting an ill shaped panel to a missshaped car whos had more hits than elvis.

Great starting base for another better escort.

    cheers,

Re: Meet the 'Orange Thing' - More Pics Added

    Cheers Matt

The car is off out for a day trip tommorow to see a guy who thinks I am a real man..... because anyone can restore them but.........

Anyway that will see the rear tubs finished so I just need to get the front arches fitted, a few bits under the bonnet welded on, the pedal box fitted and servo removed and its ready for a lick of paint from Shaun.

Hopefully I will get the engine block bored and honed this week so I can dummy build that at the weekend, I have a nice head here and I have ordered some Kent cams from Steve at Vulcan and I have a new slide throttle drawn up in solidworks so just need to find a CNC shop who can take my drawing and work with it.

Its all go and the hardest thing is managing all the steps and companies involved in supply, I must say though Gartrac, Retromotosport, HT Racing, Vulcan and Escort-TEC have all gone a step beyond helping me out with stuff on this little car

See theres one without arches ..along with the other one you posted .. thats 2 versus 1 with with arches .. there are more unarched Escorts than arched cars.. so its not like they are all arched.
Plus at the show there will always be a loved, undriven, polished and buffed 1100L sitting next to another one , and a 1300L , a 1300Gl , a 16 ghia ..etc etc .. and they get attention from who? .. ahh yeah people walk by and think two things ...

    ' thats clean'
    or
    'shame that needs using'

And then 90% of those walk on to the modified cars ..stop, take pictures inside and out ..underneath .. etc ..

Sorry, but not everyone likes a standard car. Even if its got some after market wheels on it...

This car is being used (allthough with Clint it may be some time) and as such its about getting the most out of the car, its no good having 250bhp if you get beaten round a track by a car thats got grip and 150bhp.

It always stuns me when people spend 10k on getting 250 bhp and then spend a £150 on polybushes and a set of lowering blocks.. spend 5k on the engine and have 200bhp and 5 k on the chassis .. and leave the 10k engined car behind .. and do it safer.

The Purist say its a shame to cut up a clean car.. well i say its a shame to leave any car standard .. but then thats my opinion, and like we all have one... i just dont bleat on about it ..

Some fitted arches, fitted to Gartrac's instructions, they look so right countersunk rivits and bonded on they fit like the preverbial glove !

So its engine and gearbox out Saturday and off to the paintshop Sunday night, got a lot to do between now and then and then all I have to do make the front struts, build the suspension up, change the diff ratio in the new Fostek Atlas to a 4.1 (anyone want to buy a 3.75 ??) build and engine and source a gearbox

The Purist say its a shame to cut up a clean car.. well i say its a shame to leave any car standard .. but then thats my opinion, and like we all have one... i just dont bleat on about it ..

not really what i meant, there is somewhere else other than 'standard' and 'arched'

what i meant was, that for such a mint car, there could have been another route to go down other than adding another brick to the bland wall of forest arched cars.....theres so much going on in the whole car scene that seems to go straight over what people do in the ford scene.

You can go down as many different routes as you like but at the end of the day and your car will end up worth no where near as much as if you had used the proper works parts.

Re: Meet the 'Orange Thing' - More Pics Added

Always amazes me the number of people who complain when someone does something like this TO THEIR OWN CAR. Particularly as I bet there is almost noone on this forum with an 100% standard car (stand to be corrected, go on open the floodgates...). Just saying unless you've never modified anything your not in a position to complain when someone else does. You may modify your engine, purists would frown on that, but cos it LOOKs standard externally its OK? (i'm not even starting on the points retro made re handling etc.), I'm very much each to their own. I like mods, but also like clean standard looking cars. Personally I'm not a fan of the type of arches Clint is using, I prefer xpack style mk2's but thats his choice and plenty of people like em. If you want standard, fine go for it, buy the cars like this and save them from the "evil ones". Just don't be surprised when you park up at a show and there's a bigger crowd around the modifed car parked next to you.

Sorry, that turned into a bit of a rant....

Just started sorting out the box from Gartrac and working out what I need to do with the front struts, I brought the struts in kit form so I can drop the short tube as far through the knuckle as possible, I also brought 1" dropped top mounts so that buys me a 2" drop without compressing the dampers at all. The machining on these parts is simply awesome.

not having a go, sorry to come over all 'mk1 gaz' i didn't mean to. as for the thread in GB, instead, take a look over at http://retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi? for an idea. things such as the JDM look are pretty big, low, lots of camber, rivet on arches, FMOC, yellow foglights etc.

i'll start you with a pretty comprehensive thread http://retrorides.proboards86.com/in...y&thread=11389 <----- there, theres a few pages and its been going a while so some of the links don't work.....not one of them are like that the car mervill put either.......

put the thread back on topic anyway

Was tongue in cheek mate, if you liked things like that then you'd be sent straight to the max power forums without passing go or collecting £200

lol, yeah, goes without saying , check my build thread to see what i've got going on, obviously not in the league of this thread, both in money or expertise, but i'd like to think i've got something different going on.

anyway, back to the thread that the title intended

Re: Meet the 'Orange Thing' - More Pics Added

Well I have been flat out again today, got the car nearly stripped, just got to muster up the strengh to lift the lump out in the morning, it looked daunting after a hard days graft, Shaun poped up with some thinners so cleaned half the roof tonight, hope you indian was ok m8

Steve from Vulcan was good enough to arrange some cam regrinds for me but the cams I gave him failed the Kent Cams quality check , so I met him and gave him another pair and pick up the crank he just had reground for me Cheers Steve so as soon as I pick up the block from being rebored at HT's I can get on with the bottom end build, head will just need shimming when the cams are back, I have nearly all the parts except inlet and exhaust, I still need to find a cnc shop to make my slide throttle and I need to find someone to make me a custom 4 into 1. Need to choose what gearbox to use too, with my budget nearly gone I dont have too many choices and my want list is growing, time to sell some parts from the stash I think.
