    Type 9 Gearbox Inspection

    Hi everyone,

I'm getting ready to fit a new type 9 into my Mk1 Escort, but I wanted to give it an inspection before doing so. This gearbox is new to me so I don't know the origin and I don't know if the synchros are ok, etc. I have a new set of seals and gaskets, but I've never taken a gearbox apart before, although I've rebuilt plenty of engines. Does anyone have any advice? Is this a job best left to professionals?

    Thanks,
    Robert

PS I'm in the US in case anyone plans to recommend someone to inspect/rebuild the gearbox.

Hi rob, not alot you can do really mate
Drop the oil out fr starters and check the oil or debris. You could also tke the top plate off and have a look inside just to make sure everything is "gearbox" like.
Best way to fnd out what its like though is to fit it and see Not sure what revs your taking your duratec too mate but i dont no how long a standard t9 will last

    Cheers for that Matt!

Yeah, I'll crack it open to see how it looks, but I'll know for sure once I start driving around... I think I'll try to locate another one and start going through it in anticipation of my first T9 failure!
