The idea is to get it home when the blue manta has gone and get it through an mot. Shouldnt be to hard tbh as i cant find any rot and it hasnt been stood that long so hopefully the brakes will be ok too. All the parts are inside to put it back together and its got a pinto at the min so we shall get that up and running and treat it as a rolling project. Then its get the tank and pumps up and running for the injection get the yb built up and hey presto one rapid comfy tow motor for the escort

The blue manta left the workshop at the weekend too so now theres room for the tranny to come home

Right got a phone call in the week asking me to move the camper as matey was getting pissed off with people offering him more than what i payed for it
So off we went pearl van and ivor williams in tow

When we got there we thought what the hell stuck a battery on the old girl turned the key and hey presto she fired up straght away Drove it straight on the trailor and we were ready for the off



Not as ideal as a car transporter but we wern't sure about the weight and this trailor deffo wont have any problems.



And after a few trips around the private estate when we got back just to check everything works (which it does ) On the drive. My neighbours must love me

Bit more rot and the glove box is full of water too so i reckon some seam sealer is needed somewhere

Ok just in case you thought i had forgot about this one a small update

The block has been presure washed to within an inch of its life and sent off for a rebore. I had sorced a set of pistons for it but these turned out to be bigger than what i wanted so its back to the drawing board.
If i could of found the time i would of tried for an mot but i seem to of found some enthusiasum for the escort at the min so i'm no wasting that!!!!
I have been collecting more bling though


Header tank and swirl pot


And a trial position for my stainless exhaust system



Should make the Datford tunnel a scream (especially if we map a little excess fuel on run down )



Next to do is remove the panels that need painting and find somewhere warm to paint them and rebuild the t5.
Oh yeah and save money or sell somethng to fund some new pistons

Too nice a day for shed work so outside on the camper today


Right time to strip the interior and see if its as sound as i thought...............
Carpet out and the liner looks good. Just hope the floor is the same

Some real dodgy wiring going on and a leaky heater bubble so out with the dash board................




I have no idea what is going on here but the wiring is bad and it had been bypassed so i will pressure test it and re-wire it

Drivers wing and it looked well scabby around the mirror plus the bolt had been sheared............




Quality Note the marks for the mirror position.




Insision............



The support for the mirror is abit rough but still strong so i cleaned it, treated it, painted it and refitted it.




Knock a plate up the same size as the hole and paint the underside...................




Then butt weld it in Needs some more grinding but i run out of disc




Well happy with the way its turned out. Should be nice and easy to hide witha bit of filla

Thats a nice repair Matt, put all your bolts and screws in a box m8 and Ill get them plated for you

Ermmm a little.
I just got the block back and thats now been bored to take my nice shiney new wossner pistons. Big thanks to site sponsers HT's for doing the block and Steve at Vulcans for suppling the pistons
Arron now has the head as this needs a skim and then it should be bolt it all back together again. I just have to learn how first
Been collecting some other bits and pieces too have a swirl pot, header tank and a facet red top to the collection now. As soon as i get the t9 back together for the escort i shall strip the t5 and then its ready to go in Not done anymore to the little bits of rot mainly coz i've been a bit busy and its too cold But the enthusiasum is starting to flow again so maybe an update soon

Ok the time has come to do some work on this one again

With the head still away being sorted thought it was time to dummy build the bottom end. Having never done this before i enlisted the help of a good friend So after giving everything a dam good clean again we started to assemble the bottom end.
The crank had been ground to take the new over sized shells unfourtunaltly it looks like the crank was ground to pinto tollerances and not yb tollerances So although it all goes together nicely it is on the "tight side". Never mind we carried on with the dummy build and the crank will have to go off for a polish.
The new wossner pistons got weighed and with a bit of switching the pins around they all came to within a gram of each other The rods we managed to "pair off" but with one pair weighing in more than the other they will be lightened when the engine is stripped again.
So with the crank, pistons and rods all in we checked the piston height to see how much would need machining off of the top of the pistons. none so that one less bit of machine work needed. The rings for the pistons do need gaping though. They are a bit tight at the min(apparently my dads way of gently parting the ring and touching it on the side of the bench grinder is maybe a bit agricultural )
Next on the list was to check the end float on the crank. Unfourtunatly this was a bit excesive so while the crank is out having a polish i need to get the thrust surfaces took back and some over sized thrust plates supplied.
And that was that we had all the info we needed and could strip it all down again. I have the crank ready to go to the machine shop tomorrow and the rest of the work can be done "in house".

Now i personally would of probably just bolted this engine together with the parts i had and it would of run and probably made the power. Unfourtunatly not for long Anyway it was good to be shown how to do it properly and today i have learnt plenty. No pics, they will come with the final build
I also picked up an empty t5 casing today which is going to help with the fitmant to the camper which is going to happen next week

But its progress and for me bloody enjoyable

No mate what i shall do is bolt the t5 to the pinto thats in there so i can sort out the hole for the gear shift and some gearbox mountings Thers so much room under the bonnet i havnt got to worry about the 16v head. Might have to have a look at the exhaust manifold to steering box clearance though
