some great work going in to this m8y,looking great as well
Looking good
Top work fella you must have the patience of a saint
Cheers fellas trust me my patience has been tried a few times and so has my wallet lol if it werent for my mate doing most of the metal work for me i would have had it done by now but it would be in a right old state lol just a couple more pics of etch primer to be added not much more left to be primed once the other little bits are done my other mate is taking it into his yard and the two of them will crack on with prepping for paint and painting wont take them long as they dont mess about then it will be all stations go
Also got myself some anti tramp brackets and started to drill the holes in the chassis rails for the captive nuts
I also bought a ralloy strut brace and roller top mounts but both have to go back as the roller mounts are the large ones and i need the small ones and the strut brace only fits over my chassis number and i spent ages getting the hole in the top plates right any ideas ther than the old oval thing ive already got??
Frank
Is that the weld on ralloy one frank? As they do a bolt on one which uses the 2 bolts either side closest to the engine and i think the one where the washer bottle bracket bolts on and you need to drill the one the other side?
Otherwise looking very nice I think ours should both be finished around the same time....maybe
cheers dave i will have to look into that i got it from rally design. Is the bolt on one from ralloy themselves as this one is the same as the ralloy one but a bit cheaper
Frank
Here you go mate, saves you trying to find it
http://www.ralloy.co.uk/productdetail.asp?RALNo=RAL046
At £60 i recon its still pretty cheap, il be buying one when i have my 40's on as theres no point getting it with my twin choke
Ralloy sell both bolt on and weld on for small and large strut tops, that ones for small....not sure what ones you have without me looking back through the pics
ive got the small strut tops i had a look and i might get that bolt on strut brace gonna wait til the end of the week though as i cant think at the moment with work and all
Frank
well progress has slowed to a crawl but is picking back up again. I have made up and welded the front 2 cage mounts now
under the bonnet is now fully prepped for painting
All the stikaflexing under the arches and front of the floor is done
all masked up ready for a bit of stonechip just got some small patches to be etched first thing in the morning though and then i will get the front half done and while waiting for that to dry i will finish stikaflexing the rear arches and rear floor

Working late???
Shells looking top, wish mine was that good!
What a shell that is now
Screaming 1300 mexico rep
Cheers lads no not working that late olly just putting some pics on when i got in from work lol
well been out there this morning with the stonechip gun and what a difference it makes again having it all one colour and one texture knowing that its gonna last ive still got my rear diff tunnel and my anti tramp bars to do so i have worked around those bits and will spray them when that bits done also looking around it there is a couple of small bits that could do with a little more
Frank
both front cage mounts were finished the other day
Both doors have been bare metalled etched and primed
Frank
Looks a million dollars frank, keep it up mate
Big hole Where the smashed up diff tunnel used to be unfortunately it dont seem to match in any way shape or form the new diff tunnel i have from rally design so i might have to see if i can make up an new one not sure on the best way to go about it as its all differnt shapes from one end to the other
any suggestions welcome of course
Cheers
Frank
if you want to keep it looking right can you not split the old one in half and then add in a piece of sheet metal to widen it? Would probably have to be triangular to keep the front width right
Excellent stuff there Frank The trasformation of the underside once the stonechip goes on is quite a sight
Out for a drive on a sunny spring day reminds me why I got this car
Cheers lads the stonechip underneath has made a hell of a difference as i know now that is the end of the welding underneath and it does look good as it covers up a lot of the untidiness like the seal sealer and ground down welds cheers for the advice dave but i got in there today and stopped pissing about and got welding with the help of a FBH i got it to fit fairly well and am quite pleased with the results its not my best work but its in there and solid
I also finally managed to drill the holes big enough in the chassis rails for the anti tramp brackets
welded both them on
Etch primed the just welded section
and have now seam sealed the new bits and also all the seams under the dashboard
tomorrow i will stonechip the last bit and add a little more to a few places that need it and then i could take it off the jig but i need to see wat the painter wants to do

looking good fella, keep up the good work,
Well my paint has arrived now so its almost ready unerneath with any luck will be getting painted tomorrow but in the meantime i have stripped all the old crap off the last bits now like inside the rear quarters and all the glue off the inside of the roof
these are now etch primed except the rear panels and the rear half of the quarters as these are having some prep work done to hide the seams from all the new panels
the roof, front of rear quarters and all the window shuts are now etch primed
I have also cleaned up the rear seat crossmember as i wanted to beef it up a bit where i took the rea support out to put the new diff tunnel in so that i could fit this which i had made from a template i made by a friend who has a sheet metal company very handy
Which is all welded in now and my mate next door has just bought a whole set of swaging kits and is dying to use them so i might let him have a bit of a play later
Hopefully the next update it should have a bit of colour on the underneath so i can get it off the jig and back on its wheels
Frank
very nice work there frank and some really titdy welds too.. wheres that weld of the week thread gone, sure thers a contender in that last lot somewhere
I was just thinking they were lovely weldsGood to see youre still cracking on with this.nice work
tommy 2000
cheers for the comments lads i could probably got them neater if i wasn't lying on the floor doing them but i think i have worn the jig out this week so just did it the right way up and awkward lol
Frank
Well its been a long time coming but finally there is a bit of colour on it and im well pleased with how it is looking
And it aint quite back on the floor but at least its off the jig hopefully it will be back on its wheels by the end of today thanks to Mr hoarder coming to my rescue at the last minute with a pair of small strut tops within 35 mins of ringing i had them in my hand hows that for service CHEERS ROB

I was a TS overhauler
Yep good to see you again and thanks again for the mounts it wouldnt have been rolling today without them
achieved my goal today with a few proble,s mainly trying to find all the old imperial bolts for bits and pieces til i replace them all front x member, anti dive, anti roll bar, tca's legs rear springs and rear axle on and it is now on the floor rolling which it hasnt been for a long time so i thought i would push it out and see how its looking
Rear panel getting finished is the first job and while thats being done the painter is gonna get on with getting the under bonnet final prepped
Frank
Frank
nice job there bud
Well done, lookin' good
WOW.looks like its nearly there now. Some cracking work going into this and it really shows
tommy 2000
Looking fantastic frank brilliant stuff mate
Your definately gonna be finished first i think mate
Its getting there gonna take everything back off again once its painted to give all the black bits a repaint have just ordered a quick rack, alloy rack mounts, adjustable tca's, grp4 steering knuckle, world cup x-member and some other bits from rally design so it will have a bit more bling on it have also been busy with the hole cutters today too will post pics when i get in from work
Frank
pics from todays work have made my rear seat crossmember look a little more fancy and less plain
I have also slotted my rad into place to see how its gonna look in its new home
Also i decided to pull the gearbox out from under the bench and give it a bit of a clean so i can paint it up to match everything else
Frank
Have been busy in the workshop cleaning again and a bit of colour changing as jade green wont really suit a blue engine bay
all cleaned and painted
Have also bought a new water pump, thermostat, oil pressure switch, temp sender, plugs and oil filter im gonna change the clutch while its out too and change the oil pump for a higher pressure one
Frank
It is all looking very nice Frank
have been busy today my new bits arrived have pressed the new poly bushes into the anti tramp bars the rear anti rollbar and also the bushes into the new world cup x-member
adjustable tca's are ready to go on
also most of the rear panel done now just a bit more to do tomorrow
have also painted up the rear anti roll bar fitted the stat and the inlet manifold but need to change the gaskets between the 40's and the manifold as they have started to perish
Frank
It looks really good. You have put the work in though, so it will do.
one thing I noticed that I thought was rather nifty - where did you get the pressure relief valve for the Xflow, the one above the fuel pump? i could do with one.
I'm going to pull your head off because i don't like your head!
some nice hard work going on there
awesome resto
a weekend wasted is not a wasted weekend.
There you go dave has answered it im pretty sure thats where it came from failing that possibly rally design
