    Re: Focus RS\'s (another one)

Dave, it's almost unbelieveable. With this thread in mind (as I always do when going down the backroads now) I tok one of my bends really slowly, choosing a much more relaxed driving style.

God knows what was on the ground but the car understeered across the road right over to the right. On a normal day that would've seen me in the brick wall there no worries! trouser time.

Does break my heart to see a Focus RS like that, I mean who puts chrome number plate surrounds on a car these days??

you can never treat a road like a race track no matter how well you know it.
The road stays the same for years the conditions change every second!

I used to drive my FRP at 50% in the winter and on wet days, just not worth the risk.

was it down to the dodgy wheel studs,is that why the front wheel is missing .i no there had faults with the rs focus but not many people no about the studs .i saw a chap do his wheels up once and he didnt over tighten them but 1 snapted .i looked at him in a amazement and couldnt believe that the stud snapted so easily .yes it was focus rs .poor car man ,hate to see an rs like that

            Re: Focus RS\'s (another one)

I think the probs with the Focus lie with the road surface (as mentioned above). The car is super-grippy on a smooth surface, but as a few mags have pointed out, the majority of UK roads are bumpy as hell.

Think of all the cars you've been in that had really hard suspension, and imagine how much it would skittle across the road...with FWD...in the wet! No wonder a few are going astray...

I'm sure an equal % of scoobys and evo's has been trashed over the years.

You don't by that sort of car and take it easy all day.

One the law of averages comes knocking on your door.

                Re: Focus RS\'s (another one)

I agree Mark - accidents happen everyday and these sort of cars are going to be driven enthusiastically, so inevitably there will be coming togethers. It doesn't immediately mean there is a design flaw.

Having said that, there is a nasty trait in the new EVO VIII that causes it to roll. A mate of mine is in charge of the testing at a proving ground. He successfully managed to roll it and then slide it on its roof into the only portakabin in a 5mile radius!

Nice blood stains on the airbags.

Interesting what Jost Capito said about the Focus RS and the B-road compaints made about it:
'The RS was not developed enough on UK roads. It was very much done in Germany and at the Nürburgring - if you drive it around the Nürburgring it is absolutely fantastic. In the future the [chassis] set-up will cater for English B-roads. We are also aware that the majority of our customers are in the UK. But then again, some drivers want a beast - and why not?'
