    Sapphy's Old Snort

You've had to put up with my ugly mug in the Misc. section, so to make up for I shall post up pictures of my shopping trolley!

This is my baby, my pride and joy. I've had her for 4 1/2 years now.

As it was soooo sunny today, I have spent every minute of it cleaning and polishing. I shall now publish the results!

Thanks for your comments, I like to think its not your average saff, even if they never will make the elite status that Escort S1's and 3-door sierras enjoy.

Thanks for the new siggy, I like the way you copied the gravel over... v. nice!

I've been meaning to update my sig, it is / was a bit pants!

        Cheers

                        Re: Sapphy\'s Old Snort

Guy - Thank you sir, it took me a while to be convinced, but I think it looks nicer every time I look at it!

Mark - Don't tempt me! I have completely fallen in love with 3-doors since Ian3dr from the Northants group came round to my house. I really have the hots for one at the moment and just to be near one would be great!

Magrah - Yup they are, running a set of Goodyears finest - 215/40 R16

                        Rich - Thanks chap.

Wes - It just looks so tame compared to yours!

StickerTone - They took two car, used the best bits on mine and used up the rest on yours!

                              Re: Sapphy\'s Old Snort

                              Thanks John.

I have been unlucky & lucky with it. When I got it I gave it new suspension, multi-layer headgasket, cambelt, tensioner, service, discs and pads. I do this as a matter of course so that I know all to be well. The h/gasket did need replacing though.

The only trouble it had given me (until a couple of months ago) was an intermittent fault that was linked back (after much diagnosis) to be the internals of the dizzy.

Unfortunately, during one of my numerous cambelt changes, one of the garages put the belt on wrong and it ended up being run for quite a while with the timing heavily advanced. This caused a few things to fail but once replaced all was well.

The other things I;ve had done to it were just to make it as good as it can be. I work for Ford and so get a good discunt on spares. I did £1200 on bits for it - bushes, clips, engine mounts, turbo dampner, sills clips, sensors, seals, hoses etc..etc... I then paid £800 to have them all fitted.

Last month I had the gearbox reconditioned (all new bits), suspension done again and a new turbo. It is still on its original engine.

I have spent well over £8000 on it since I bought it, but half of this can be attributed to me just keeping it as good as.

Put it this way, a mate bought an Alfa 155. In the six months he had it it cost him £2500 in essential maintence. The variable valve timing had seized, the discs and pads needed doing clutch and a mechanical gremlin that was never identified. He sold it asap as he was petrified of getting another bill. All in 6months.

Makes me old cossie not seem so bad!
