Re: Shed loads of AVO\'s last night Staines m

Just to set the record straight about round verses square headlights. a lot of people have change the lights due to the bad illumination, i.e. larger bulbs.

A couple of cars had a few specks of dirt..... but hey....who cares...Blow away the 325i

B2b that's not quite clear, so are you saying that they all originally came with round lights but some changed to square due to illumination? If so then originally they were all round?

Only my view if that's the case then that amount these baby's are worth I wouldn;t mess with them no matter how bad the lights!

Grey area, around 68-69, production changed and Mexico's came into the frame, I am sure that the majority of the cars were fitted with square lights as the model above, crap illumination. But owner preference was at that time to change the lights, to the round type as fitted to Mexico's and RS2000's in addition a relay was added for dual light and dip beam. Also in 1967-8-9 they obviously never realised they would be worth as much....DOH!!

        Hope it helps

Sound's like what I have heard was bull then. I can't believe someone restoring these types of cars would sway from the original spec.

That car is still for sale by the way if anyone is interested.

                    Lights

This square and round light thing seems to on for ever and ever.

When the Mk 1 Escort came out the lower spec cars had round lamps and the higher spec ones square (even though the square ones were even worse than the round ones if that is possible).

Ford decided that as the Twin Cam was their "top of the range" model it couldn't have round lamps like the lower ones.

There was a production change to round lamps, no one seems sure just when, but probably July/ Aug 1969.

And of course lots of people rallying these cars changed the lamps anyway as it was a fairly easy swap.

Then when the AVO cars came along - as mentioned above - the headlamps were wired so BOTH filaments, dip and main, come on when main beam is selected.

These pictures of my car from the early 70's show just such a swap.

                    Everyone happy now??

OK As Raj (Magrah)is very busy i popped along tonight and had a look. It is a bp garage, and is on the corner of Crown woods road. However the Twin cam was sold about two to three weeks ago. That is weird, this thread started around then do you reckon someone was reading, went along for a look and bought it? Whoever has got it is very lucky, register and show some piccies!

Thanks for that Carl your a true gent. I can not believe it has sold, it has been for sale for at least 7 years as far as I can remember. But as i said to you the market for Mk1's seems to have really picked up!
