    RS1600i

Just picked up my new daily runner today which is an RS1600i that has a full cage and stripped out interior. The engine has been tuned to 130 odd bhp and was timed last weekend at 143mph which is fairly quick for one of these.

This is how it looked when I got it home:

Suffice to say that it didn't take me too long to change a couple of things and it now looks like this:

10 times better and it didn't cost me a thing!

Love these motors, why no pics of the front ?

The Escort badge is in the wrong place too.

          FF Just for you!

The reason there are no proper pics of the front is because it was parked up against the fence and I couldn't be arsed to move it as I haven't taken any shite off the front end.

It needs a new bootlid so I am not too bothered about things like that. Its holding it together! The bonnet stripes are not on properly either.

Nice. Good to see you got rid of all that crap off it.

I mean, spelling out 'SORTED RS'?

                        Re: RS1600i

Very nice, I too have always fancied one of those.

Just one question, how does it go 143mph on 130 bhp?, even if that's flywheel that still doesn't seem quite enough power to go that fast.

Just had a look and Jeremy Waltons book quotes the MK1 RST at 132bhp/126mph and 115bhp/116mph for the RS1600i

Perhaps it was all those stickers made it go faster - good job on their removal by the way.

I think you need to test it for us (on a private road of course)

I had my RSi on the limiter in top a few times, which worked out at 141mph, and that was only 121bhp. It would easily go off the speado.

You're both right. It was Kev Flatmans car which was for sale on the RS BB. I think it has only been restored a short while? But I know it was at Stanford Hall with all the other "on Tour" 16i's this year. Any other pictures would be much appreciated.

In all honesty "I don't know" I was told this by Kev as the garage that has completed all the engine work used it for some sort of time trial and that was what he told me. It also done the standing quarter in 16 secs. I don't know if that is any good?

I will be testing it out well and truly in the future. Plans are to take it on track as much as possible until something RWD comes along. Then the missus can take it out.
