After quite some debate with myself - I love this car!!
Now that it's fully run in I gave it such a beating down the backroads, it was fabulous. The grip is awesome, and although it feels a bit light and skittish whilst you hurtle along a bumpy road with the scenery whizzing by, a slight turn of the steering wheel makes you realise that all four boots are firmly on the ground.
There is no point revving the engine, being an 8v you just feel like you are doing it for the sake of it - I find it a lot more potent around the 4-5.5k rpm mark.
The leather is to be recommended if only for the smell that greets you each morning and the controls are all within easy 'keep your eyeys on the road' reach. Imperial Blue is oh so definitely the colour to get it in - all the others make the rear fog lights look shit.
I would've liked it to have a nicer dash than the boggo KA's and more dials - just something that would let you know that you're here to play, not just to pootle down to Tesco's in.
Gripes: Difficult to drive smoothly, 205 gti throttle syndrome and also does the ST170's trick of sometimes accelerating on low revs overrun (!!!) and the brakes have to be planted firmly on before the brake lights come on - I shall be adjusting that tomorrow though.
Other niggles: Rattle in the boot that I can't identify, only 2 speaker stereo (I mean come on, who is this car aimed at?!!) and fifth gear change isn't very positive. The engine gets very 'rumbly' at high revs - makes you think an engine mount is loose. This is annoying if you are trying to make a nippy move off from the lights in 1st as you either have to bear it or very short shift to second gear.
Other than those, it's tops! Highly recommend it as a very comfortable four seater with pace and handling and a pleasently fruity exhaust note.
Done just 300miles in it over the last 24 hours and the engine is loosening up beautifully! 160 odd miles of backroad fun (thirsty!) and a 50min cruise at 110 and it is coming on song.
I have a bad back though from a bad car crash 9 years ago and it does begin to ache in this car after a while. The seating position is not as comfy as the fiesta and the pedals sit a bit too 'upright' if you know what I mean - I feel like I have twisted my right knee after all the driving I have done.
Still, the backroad grins and teh way it eats roundabouts is something I think only Mark will know from having driven his Puma - I would dearly love to put raving puma seats in the KA - does anyone know if they would fit and if I can get them?
Sapphy i agree with u great car flys too. down side is at 70+ it does rumble a bit but still its a fast ford. and is a total hoot on the Country lane...
Not done it yet as the cossie alloys are err.. on the cossie and that is down at the bodyshop. There's a photoshop forum - get someone to do it for you!
