    Re: Top speed photos

Just wanted to see if this pic comes out:

All going to plan that should be a pic of the front end of my wagon.

Anyone got a spare 2 litre C20 XE Vauxhall engine they don't need? Or know of someone who has?

My oil pump has just died taking the engine out with it. Not sure exactly what's dead, but judging from the pebbles in a tin sound effects I'd say most of it.

Guess it was too much caning about the place for the pics above. Doh.

          Nice number plate mate!

Sorry to hear about your engine my C20xe put a conrod throught the block for absolutely no reason - it was the mintest car you'd ever seen and when the engine was pulled out it looked brand new (except you could se straight through the block!

If you get a second hand engine, make sure you hear/see it running first. I got my replacement through a friend but it has since turned out to be a bit of a dog.

Your best best is to get Regal to build you one up, they are reasonable (although it may not seem it) and I wish that I had done that now. If you have a few more pennies available SBDevelopment can build you up a corker!

Hope you get things sorted soon mate.
          Hugh

Magrah - I know what you mean about the "aerodynamics of a brick" feeling, but I though the drag on the droopsnoot MKII was quite low, for its time - anyone got any ideas on how it compares to, say a cossie (4 door)????
Still 140 or so in a MKII is hairy enough - there's not a lot of car there if you do have a bang, unlike some modern larger performance cars!!

Hi Per, it was in a Mk1, so it's pretty bad like a non droop snoot Mk2, i think the Cossie areo dynamics are pretty good, I recal when they the Mk1 Cossie came out it was cutting edge on that front, and the 4 door shares the basic layout.

The old Mk1 had around 190bhp, and it explains why a 4 door saph with 15bhp more weighing about 300 kgs more can get to 150.

Cheers guys, thanks for the compliments! I know it ain't a Blue Oval, but the only one I'd own is a Cossie and Mr Insurance isn't one of my mates!

Here's a pic of my interim beast on the way up to World Super Bike on Sunday:

To say that was hairy was an understatement. Still, shifts alright for a 12 year old 1.6 8v Sunny!

I've stuck some pics of World Super Bike on a post called

"Any one want any World Super Bike stuff?" I think - there's a couple of interesting bits of kit there for all power and speed freaks.

                  Later,

                          Re: Top speed photos

Nah, you're all wrong, the tank was dry, so it was running on vapours hence the incredible speed (from a 12 year old 1.6 8v with no turbo)

Ok so Sketch is right, the fuel guage is dead, as is the temp guage, which is prob a good thing as at that spead the fuel would have been sinking like a stone and the temp rising like something opposite to a sinking stone.

My motor is well and truly dead, the cam lobes are pitted and worn (they were new about 500 miles ago), the big end shells are scratched, pitted and basically worn out, the oil pump release valave (I think) is blocked and the oil cooler is full of shavings of metal from the motor. Pricey.

Got a new motor arriving tomorrow, and should be fitted by the weekend, possibly, in time for Run To The Sun in Newquay.

Anyone got any tips for insuring a 330 bhp cossie at age 24? Any young bods out there driving (as opposed to joyriding) a Cossie? Who are you insured with and what roughly do you pay?
