    Project recession buster

This project has come about after having conversations with customers that either currently compet for us to run in this classe or would like to compete but are put of by the potential costs involved with building maintaning and running a car.

The car this project will be based on is a humble 1.3 Ford Ka. We will be building it for the hills and to sprint in the roadgoing production class we will also be doing the odd trackday init.

Their is a couple of reasons behind our choices
1 This car is perfect to have as a 2nd familly car and sits well next to our everyday Zafira (i actually used it for this last night to take my son to his athletics club) this coupled to the fact that the insurance/tax and mpg are good and general maintance costs are low stand to make it finacially viable.

2, for us to run in this class we have to retain the interior which helps to keep practical as a road car unlike my roadlegal caged up track car.

3, I know it will never count as a "hot hatch" but it is good fun to throw around but once breathed upon will make for a fun toy that ticks allot of boxes.

The plans for modifications so far are,

lower stiffer/springs (as chuckable as it is i do feel seasick after spirited driving)

Cobra Monaco seat (stock seat is as surportive as a park bench)

    4point harness

uprated bushes starting with the rear beam as they have excesive movent in them

More will be done in time but we are really aiming to get out and enjoy the car and have some fun with our friends.
Right the important bit with this build cost s so far are as follows

    purchase price free
    mot 45
    2x wishbones 34.95
3x patches of welding consumables plus my own time
    road tax 74.25 for 6months

to be fair i dont think im doing to bad so far.
I would be really intersted to hear peoples views on this and to see if its as well recieved as it has been with my customers. Just keep in mind it is what it is nothing more nothing less, i have my caged up well specd track car but this is being built to a different budget for a different purpose.
    cheers stu stitchmotorsport.

      nice ....

Ive got a mk2 but Im keeping it for a rainy day ...

I cant do front wheel drive so have just picked up a 2001 bugeye impreza sport ... for £300 ... it did a local autotest (motokhana)with its previous owner and think most of the time in the tyres as its very battered

pre autotest was very good its a good base ... it already has a sump guard, coil overs, welded seat tubes, quickshift kit etc etc

Ive budgeted for £1500 ready to rally (night events)full cage £450 and out of date but nice seats and harnesses but want to keep it usable as a 2nd car ... insurance is silly cheap , good mpg (35) and its aparently been r/roaded at 155 bhp (woooow!)

it needs a pair of doors and wings and a re-paint (can do this myself) so am looking forward to getting it done

good luck with yours it will be a fun little car
