Cruz's MK1 Escort race and hillclimb car

This thread is going to be a log diary to my race car/hillclimb Mk1 Escort…

The car has began 6 years ago then was put on the side the years passed and I bought the shell 1 year ago and the work recommence after a couple of months I understand why the previous owner didn’t complete his project... the body guy is very skill with his hands and with is excuses and there is always one...

I did put my skills to work with cash in one hand and a stick in the other and in 6 more months the 2 weeks job was completed...

I’m going fast forward the build to the present day... enjoy

This is how I got the car:

I know it was time to get the stick and wave the cash and the result after one month was a little bit better:

The deal with previous owner was the car completed ready to go to the paint shop but I wanted to be dry build before that so the car was moved to my usual builder Mr. Branco...

This was the first time the car was out of that shop for the last 6 and 1/2 years...

In the meanwhile I did buy from a fellow turbosport member an Russ Tyler 2.2 Pinto with this spec:

          2.2 pinto
          205 block
          stroked cast crank
          Fiesta diesel rods
          2.8 pistons
          custom cam Russ Tyler spec
full stage 3 head built by Russ Tyler (raised inlet ports)
H&H dizzy with new gp a coil pack
          pair delorto 48s
          tony law manifold
This is the rolling road of the engine:

When I got the engine it was stripped, refreshed and we add:
          Dry sump from Tilton
          Arp bolts for the rods
Steel flywheel (3,2kg) and arp bolts

          The raised ports:

Next was the time and money consuming task of gathering all the parts needed to assemble the car

The gearbox is a Ford Rocket 4-speed heavy duty with Race spec ratios 2.040/1.540/1.210/1:1 that was boughted also from another Turbosport member for another project that didn't go to that direction so it was used in this one:

The rear axle is going to be fully an Atlas floating and the choice of the LSD was a Gripper and a 5.1 ratio:

The suspension is Bilstein all around:

The cross member (the engine will be attached to the chassis):

            The wheels are 15"x8"

            A quick rack:

Willwood 4 pot for stoping on the front and sierra calipers on the back:

            Race battery:

And the fuel tank, alloy radiator and top mounts that came with the shell:

With the pieces collected it was time for a quick dry build of the most important elements of the car before it was painted:

The steering wheel and seat in place:

The corsa b electric steering in place and the pedal box:

The front suspension with the tension struts:

The rear suspension in place with the 6 links:

                The wheels fitted:

The strut brace in place and the rollcage stiffeners:

                The doors angle gusset:

The support for the hand brake:

And the support for the brake and clutch reservoir:

                The fuel tank in place:

And testing the kevlar bonnet, boot and the front spoiler:

                  The rear firewall in place:

The bubble heater and the engine mounts in place:

The fabricated steel mount plate for the dry sump oil tank:

Some more testing of the kevlar boot:

                  And the GRP dash top:

                          Huge project you have!

I saw a "P&B Racing" sticker in the karting. Where are you from?
