    bmw e36 318 compact

    Hi

been on this forum a while now, since last april probably as thats when i got this car I thought i should start a build thread for my own benefit as well as others as im sure it will come usefull for myself at one point haha.

anyway got myself a s reg 318ti compact in silver with the aim of using it as a night event/road rally car. has the standard engine in for now but i have big plans just like anybody else whos into their rallying haha the basic spec is

abs removed, bias valve, hydraulic hbrake etc
ferodo pads with standard vented discs
group 4 escort rear bilsteins and motorsport spec bilstein on front
    medium case with 4.4lsd
    sparco cage
    home made sumpguard
    lightforce spots

have done an autotest in it and loved it but first proper event will be next weekend on the valentine rally in anglesey

now some pics havent really got pics of throughout the build or how it was when i first got it.

Currently having a 2.1 engine built by vulcan engineering. And am on the lookout for a close ratio type 9 style box for it.

    cheers

2.1 what? pinto i assume, a slightly odd choice for a compact, a std blueprinted chipped 1.9 compact lump will give 160bhp

      Hi Graham.

No the standard m44 is getting built. Getting a crank out of a 320d larger pistons. Ported head and cams. Staying with standard valves. Hopefully in the region of 190-200. They seem to get 225bhp on itbs. But i cant run these.

I ran the standard engine on a remap and found it was still pretty gutless.

      Cheers

haven't updated this in a while

currently still waiting on the engine to come back. been doing a few jobs like moving the relays and the fuses for the spots inside the car to try and tidy under the bonnet a bit.

but here's a few pics of the engine build that's been sent to me. currently the block and the head are done but waiting on a custom head gasket to bring the compression ratio to 11.8:1, hopefully it wont be long now

could anybody move this to the competition car section? hadn't noticed the section before.

Any of you needing a 3.0 E36 M3 for running gear?

Sprins are standard rear and 328 fronts to give extra clearence. But setup is to soft so looking at going coilovers.

Considering escort billy coilovers rear and hockly fronts with bilstein insert.

How much are you after for running gear? I have a wide arched stage shell that im building. Wasnt really wanting to go 6 cylinder route, but if the price is right.....

Should be a really fun car when all done! I imagine its fun to begin with.

11:8 to 1 compression... are you planning on using pump gas or will it ping? I ask because that's right in the ball park of what I was thinking for compression on my motor. Granted its not the same motor but at least this would give me some sort of idea.

Yes im planning on using pump fuel. Although i am not the best to give out advice. I took the engine out and just sent it a engine builder to build it for me haha was the easiest option.

Regardless thanks for the reply. Even if your not the one who's building it is a piece of info that gives me something to go off of. I see all these N/A volvo motors on youtube with advertised compression around 11.7ish:1 compression but have no way of contacting the owners to ask what they use for fuel.

Will it be getting Itb's or webers or are you keeping the stock intake setup for now? I assume a set of big cams is also in the works??? Really look forward to seeing how the whole package goes!

You can send messages on YouTube or leave comments, had a full blown conversation on YouTube comments before.

Standard management and intake for now. But will be going in a new stage shell with itbs and standalone.

I haven't gone for to big cams as I dont want an engine with all the power high up. But we shall see, I may swap them in the future.
