Re: Mr Jimbo - MK1 Escort - 2.0 Pinto
the msa have answered
Dear Graham,
Thank you for your recent email regarding the regulations for modified production in sprints and hill climbs. After consultation, please see below the response to the queries raised:
To allow these cars to run in Modified Production is not correct for (I)99 states “Additions and modifications to springs, shock absorbers or suspension height are free. The original type of of suspension must be retained (eg a twin wishbone set up cannot replace a single wishbone suspension , a sliding pillar cannot be replaced by a McPherson strut; a trailing link cannot be replaced by wishbones or coaxial springing). “
The proposal is neither an addition to or modification of the springs for the coil springs are a replacement. If the leaf springs were retained and supplemented by the coilovers that would be fine. If the leaf springs had a leaf or two removed that would be fine.
The proposal also infringes (I) 100 – 101 for the type of suspension is changed from leave sprung live axle to trailing arm live axle. Furthermore there is no provision for additional suspension links.
In this for the car cannot be run in Modified Production, with the suspension system changed as outlined then there is no problem provided it is run in Sports Libre.
Hopefully this will answer all of the questions, if you have any further queries please don’t hesitate to get in contact.
Regards,
Joe

Re: Mr Jimbo - MK1 Escort - 2.0 Pinto
the regulation 100 says live axles are allowed location links, it doesnt actually say you can fit additional ones though, although you could read it as additional links for a trailing arm arnt allowed and they are saying without the leafs the axle is suspended via a trailing arm
as the sruits dont have an issue with the 4 link, then surely the thing to do is just fit some leaves...........Comment

Take it to Wales, they've got a Rally car class there..........
"The name of the game is you either have to adopt the funny handshake with left leg held in the air whilst the other person holds your right nipple or go to wales where there's a big class for all escorts - rally cars - well that's the conclusion I have drawn!!!!"
I believe that's what you told me.................Last edited by mrjimbo; 04-07-2008, 05:43.sigpicComment

Re: Mr Jimbo - MK1 Escort - 2.0 Pinto
Personally it just makes the OFSC look more promising ... run against any old ford thats there and away you go.. no stupid this and that rules ..
or should that be ............
rule 1 .. springs are not free
rule 2 .. when springs are free refer back to rule 1
How many people out there have built Gp4 Replicas and now have to run in Sports Libre .. ?

There are other cars in the class that aren't 100% legal engine wise,mk1/mk2 escorts using 205 pinto blocks (never fitted to rwd escorts),mk1 astras with 2.0 16v engines (mk1 astra only had 1800 8vs) opel manta s fitted with 2.0 red tops (they never fitted the 2.0 ohc lump,2.0 mantas were cam in head)pug 205s with mi16 engines (blocks are different) the rules state that blocks must be externally identifiable as thos fitted to the original car. I'm sure there are more that arn't 100% legal.
The suspension rules seem to be anti Escort mk1/2!
According to these rules IF I wanted to run a chevette/viva with a 2.0 Jensen/lotus engine (based on the early 2.0ohc gm lump) it'd be allowed,And as the rear is already coil spung with trailing links proper 5 linking would be allowed too,I could even use an english or atlas axle as axles don't have to be original to the car just original type.
Apparently the rules are going to be clarified/ revised for 2009 but we'll have to wait and see.Last edited by Pushrod King; 05-07-2008, 09:38.Comment
