    Grasstrack Mini

i thought i'd start a thread on one of our racecars. well its not as nice as some of the other cars on here ! but its still a competition car !
this is dads mini that he races in SEGTO - class '1450 hotrod', or NASA - class '5'

we bought the car september 2007 after being told the engine 'just stopped' after crossing the line, we had our suspicions as to what was up with it but we didnt expect so much to be wrong with it !
after stripping the engine and box we found so much wrong with it we had to start from scratch, the head was cracked and there was damage to the valves, the shells were bolloxed, the side of the diff had broken off , the gearbox was knackered etc etc etc

the spec now is a 1380 A series lump, forged pistons, unknown race cam ( soon to be swapped for a piper 300 ) vernier, stage 4 head, luminetion ignition, race clutch, high torque starter motor, no alternator, split weber 45's, roller rockers, high capacity water pump, thermostat 'sleeve fitted, XR2 rad, SC gearbox, SC drop gears, SC crownwheel and pinion, Tran-X LSD, Jack Knight shafts, quickshift. 116bhp so far, hopefully around 120 witht he differnt cam and a higher spec head, also we might change the crank and re-bore it to get 1425 but we'll see how money is in the new year !

the shell is pretty bolloxed to be honest, after this season or the first crash he has we will re-shell it into probably my new shell ( the reason we havent re-shelled it is becasue he's still getting used to the engine so it will end up in the barrier at some stage !)
    its running
Fibreglass door skins + boot skin and bonnet skin
Steel clubman front wings + front panel
    Full Cage
Rear trailing arms with AVO coilovers, minifin drums also on the rear
Kirkey seat, alloy panneling over rear, modifyed dash
metro 4 pot calipers on the front, braided hoses throughout
small ally fuel tank with facet fuel pump
    24v starting system
regualtions limit the wheels to 10J wide but we run on (intermediate) 7x13 superlights and 7x13 wellers with michelins, (dry) 8x13 alleycats with michelin, dunlops or hoosiers, and wet 13x6 or 12x5/12x6 wellers with maxsport tyres
(ignore the crappy wheels in the photo ! they were only used to try and get the gearing right at a track we were doing testing at)

i'll keep it updated with any modifications we do over the next season and sorry about the lack of pictures ! my other computer went tits up

hi jon, thanks alot for popping over that time top bloke
my brother won his championship in his prod b (class 2), unfortuantly i've been made redundant twice in the last 6 months ! and i was working on a rally team nearly every weekend throughout august/september/october so i havent been able to cough up the cash to finish mine it'll be done by march though, here's some old pics of when the cage went in http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...8/New%20Racer/ ! the cage ties into the (rear) rear subframe mounts aswel which should keep the shell solid in a big crash
we're raced at two nasa tracks this year, well we turned up at invicta kent and went out for practice then they cancelled the meeting
we took dads to st neots in october, and fook me some of your class 5 boys are quick ! we managed to keep on the pace in the final but those 1400 rear engined minis take some catching
i see your car did alright in the championship standings this season, well done to your girls whats your home track? as dad wants to travel abit next season and might pop up
      have a good christmas jon
