What to do - Views and opinions please

OK so here we go then.

I have recently bought a project 1973 Mk1 Mexico with a very sound shell and loads of bits. My intention was to do a nice track day car (road registered) and maybe enter some historic track races (no rally for me).
We started on some work on the shell (4 link, turrets, roll cage etc) and at the same time started to look at what to do with the rest (car came with 2 rear axle, cosworth rear brakes - not fitted, 2.8 front struts, etc etc).

I now have to decide what to do before we go further and this is where things get complicated :
    1. Engine choice :
Car came with a pinto 2.0 which turns out to be a RS2000 and having done some search on the net, potentially (and I say potentially as I don't know for sure so please dont shoot me down) a rare block. Been putting the serial number into some websites and that's what some people say..... That engine is standard by the way.

I also have just purchased a very nice 205 pinto 2.0 which has had some work done to it, ported inlets, twin 45, gp cam etc so about 150bhp.

Now I have read somewhere that 205 blocks are now allowed in historic rally but not allowed by the FIA. So if I put that engine in the car, no problems for track days but no chance for historic races.....

    2. Rear Brakes :
Car came with Cosworth rears but once again, after doing a little bit of research and reading, some people say that Capri 9" rear drums are good if you can get some.
Well guess what, the rear axle that I am putting in the car has got 9" rears. So once again, what do I do ?
If I fit calipers, I can't do historic events but are the drums really good enough for heavy track use/racing ?

Maybe I am looking too much into it and should just get on with doing the conversion to what I want but at the same time think it would be a shame to make the car non elidgible when it is not going to require that much more work to rebuild it in keeping with the period.

Then there will be the issue of front struts (can I fit 2.8 capri and still race it in historics), front brakes and so on and on.

View appreciated guys, no right or wrong answer just would like to get others point of view.

    Thanks

You need to get hold of the regulations from some of the historic race series you want to do ... as some say no linking allowed, original in date blocks , no 205's etc
