    my gsmotosport time attack cosworth

had my first time attack race at oulton park last saturday,

not sure if many of you have seen or heard about time attack?

The on-track element of a Time Attack event consists of four sessions:
Warm Up 15 minutes, Practice 20 minutes , Qualifying 20 minutes and the Final 15 minutes. The sessions timings may vary but the Final is always 15 minutes.
Warm Up – is always untimed as it is the time when you familiarise yourself with the circuit and ensure your vehicle is competition ready.
Practice – this is where you start to lay down some fast times and see exactly where you are within your class.
Qualifying – is exactly that, if you want to go through to the Final you must make your times count in this session. Some events allow all drivers within a Class through to the Final and this is confirmed with drievrs in the morning briefing. For 2009 points are also awarded for qualifying in each class as follows: 1st – 50 points, 2nd 40 points through to 10 points for 5th position.
The Final – where the pressure is on with even more points (and trophies) at stake for you to achieve

it was my first time at oulton park i'd never driven one lap,

over the course of the day i knocked seven seconds off of my lap time from the mornings session

i made the final and finished 4th in my class behind two supras one is 850bhp and the other 750 bhp and a torbo'd lotus exige which won the class, i have the lowest power in my class at 360bhp

lights on to indicate i am on a flying lap

    and some on board vids

even made it onto the time attack site

That looks excellent, and something that I might be interested in doing instead of sprinting/hillclimbing. I wouldn't be able to do all the events by any means, but I'd be most interested in finding out how much it costs to do each event?

Just had a look. £274 entry fee for each round. Not bad I'd say, similar to rallying and I would guess a race event (don't know the fees for those). Just read through the regs too, free engine selection which is good, meaning classics like Escorts can run their engine of choice and remain in the right class unlike the stupid rules of sprinting and hillclimbing (anything other than standard block and you're suddenly up against single seaters etc!), so Duratecs, XE's or any of the newer choices are permitted, which is awesome really.

I really like the look of this series, and could be the future for a lot of people that are looking for something other than sprinting etc. It has certainly got my attention!!

Congratulations to you too Ronnie, car looks/sounds lovely!! Going to come to Brands Hatch for the June 27th round to have a watch, are you going to be at that?

Re: my gsmotosport time attack cosworth

It'd be a mere humble 200bhp(ish) RS2000 X-Pack, but like you say will be something a little different to the jap(notso maybe)crap

Do you compete in the pro series? As I would be looking at the Club series. How do those differ?

Only problem I can see with us ex - sprint / hillclimb competitors is that the MSA will take your race licence away from you if you are caught entering any event not scanctioned by them ---- read the ' blue book ' . Do time attack drivers have any sort of race licence ?
