Think thats all im going to do with the cage, I may pull it through to the bulkhead/inner wings for a bit of extra protection as I dont like how far back it sits to clear the dash atm. Its just a safety devices B7 cage. Horrible thing terms of bith fit and rigidity in standard form, but I got it cheap with the shell so I'd rather add a bit to it myself than buy another new one.

I know, t this rate, in ten years time we will have to race production electric G-wizz type crap.

Anyway, the new victim arrived last week and here is the last few days progress, all stripped down, wiring thinned down to the bare essentials and sound deadening scraped off, engine bay has had the brackets and threaded nipples removed and the sunroof crtridge removed and a filer plate tigged in place.

Good luck with the new shell, I'm sure you'll have it assembled in no time.
A real pity about the other shell, I did fear the mods might be a step too far but I'm not so up on rally regs. Such a shame they are 'dumming down' so many forms of motorsport as it kills all of this sort of great fabrication and initiative. A lot of the one off specials will disapperar soon from both racing and rallying if we are not careful

The new car will still be pretty special even if it is a bit more std, look forward to the updates.

Looks like its going to be stored at this rate, definately the worst time to be selling something like this and its not worth my while to give it away just for the sake of getting it out the way, if a buyer doesnt come along then it will get a 4.0 V8 thrown in when funds allow and be used as a sprint car .

its a cracking shell, i'd love to have it BUT the bulkhead mods and floor/tunnel mean i also cant use it unless its cheap enough to make it worth me coverting back to std

If anyone knows anyone that would be interested in this, £1800 takes the rolling shell , with suspension fitted but no running gear or brakes, will also come with doors, wings and a bootlid but no bonnet, together with road logbook and msa logbook for what its worth.

gutted for you about the shell am sure it will fetch good money if you have to sell it its about time the MSA did something for the clubman not just the ones go out and buy a rally car off the shelf

Well its been 10 steps forward 20 back with this, The MSA have stamped their feet and due to the extensive mods to the bulhead and tunnels it falls just outside of the class 2 regs which will apply from 2012. As a result the shell is basically useless for rallying :|

Bit of a kick in the teeth to say the least but trying to keep positive. Stripped the shell again today, just the motor and box to take out, going to keep it rolling for ease of strorage and start again with the suspension. Will be sending off some standard struts to AVO along with new top mounts and getting them to make up some 2 way adjustables for the front.

Have sourced a clean 316 auto shell, a z3 steering rack, safety devices cage and a couple of 4.4 diffs locally so this will be the next victim. Although it will be a much more basic spec, it will get a pair of turrets grafted into the rear and the rear bulkhead moved forward to sit the escort tank more in the middle of the car.

In a way im glad as It was becoming a bit of a slog working on this, especially when its been dragging on for well over a year. New car should be finished much sooner considering i have 99% of the parts!

looking good Martin. I didn't realise you would be rallying it when finished. I do like a BMW, if i ever sold my escort thats what i would replace it with! Keep the updates coming
