    Woohoo!
Drove it for the first time in about a year last night.
Engine was running a little rough and definatley needs a mapping session but it still went like absolute stink with loads of grunt from low down which is what i wanted.
Just got a few Gremlins to kill now and i'm ready !!

Re: My Alan Mann MK1 Escort trackday / sprint car

Well, i fired her up yesterday. Its really, really reluctant to start so i have to jump it from another car.
It was turning over, and over, and over, then.... BANG!!
I have never heard anything like it, it was like a stun grenade went off in the garage. I have heard many back fires before when i have gotten the timing out by 180° but this was several times louder. I went deaf for about 20 seconds and it was like that scene in Saving Private Ryan where Tom hanks is stunned after a shell burst.

Anyway, after i had recovered, it eventually started and i took it for another quick couple of laps round the block.
She certainly is quick! I could only get into 3rd gear but even just poodling along in third, if i gunned the throttle the rears would light up no problem!
My last engine was quick with 220-230BHP but this has soooo much more grunt! I cant wait to get her MOT'd and onto the open road.
I think i'm gonna need some wider, stickier rubber on the rear to make the most of this engine.
            And that means more money!

I'm really glad it feels so good mate and I'm sure it's very very tempting to take her for a blast but are you still running her on your old 2L map?

Im just really concerned that you are damaging your new engine cos as it's injected there is probably a good reason it won't start very well and that is that the map could be a fair bit out.

Just a friendly warning mate as I'd like to see you out on track and not stuck in the garage again

Re: My Alan Mann MK1 Escort trackday / sprint car

Hi Matt, cheers for the concern mate.
The engine came with an ECU (Pectel T2) and it is all mapped. I think that the problems i having could be down to my exhaust manifold.
The manifold that was previously ran with the engine had larger primaries whereas mine are relativley small at 1.85" outer diameter.
I was going to get her MOT'd before going to the rollers but i think i'll get it set-up first now.
something is definatley not right with the map as its slightly hesitant at certain points in the revs and its a bugger to start!

I might give HT's a call today to book it in for next week.
The only problem is that i dont like her getting wet as there are no seals so i need to arrange it around the weather! (tart!).

                      BBAAAAAARRRRRRPPP!

Re: My Alan Mann MK1 Escort trackday / sprint car

Well, she passed the MOT on Monday! Flew through.

And for the first time since owning the car, the brakes worked really well! There was a problem with the pedal box which i think is sorted now and the car actually stops! ( a bit of a novelty for me).

It seems the diff is a bit noisy when coming off the throttle but there is so much noise going on inside the car i cant really tell yet.

Its days like these when i could actually drive the thing that makes owning and building these cars all worthwhile.
Aside from a constant panic in the back of my mind that something is going to break, it was a great drive to the MOT station!

                                Track Day next! WOOHOO!
