Can somebody please tell me what thread size the RS strut has, and what thread should be made to fit the cossie calliper???
Thanks
"Busy doin' nothing..."
That Cosworth caliper conversion actually looks really good. I can honestly say I've never seen them on an Escort before.
I went a wee bit off the beaten path with mine. Dont think anyone else has Porsche Brembos on an Escort, but they are tops and I got them cheap
Cheers! Graham
where did you get the mounting brackets from for the Porsche calipers?
Hi mate
The rears are lug mounted, so no big deal, but the fronts are radial mounted so I had some alloy mounts cnc'd up. They wern't cheap, but are the business! You could just as easilly make the mounts out of steel and weld something up. Again, no big deal.
Hope this helps mate!
Cheers! Graham
Some pics of my brackets my dad made me using this thread for info
The small holes are for locking tabs.
Instead of surface grinding the plates down he turned them down on thye lathe.
Started with 1/2" plate and it ended up around the 7/16" so if you can source some 7/16 plate you may be able to use that
Excellent work Matt (and Matts dad)
Can you post up the dimensions for those brackets?
Have you thought about making a few more sets for sale?
Cheers
Neil
Thanks
I thought about making up a few brackets but got a deffinate NO from my dad
As for dimensions which ones are you after?
I can put up the overal dimensions of the plate and the thickness.
Wonder how i would go about posting a realsize pic
Keep shrinking it til the one you have in your hands the same size as the one on the screen
Thought i may add some info here for those looking to run 14 or 13" wheels
Disks Citroen BX16V or diesel fronts 266x20.
You will have to increase the whole in the center of the disk to suit the hub and re drill mounting holes.
Rally Design part number BM121; You will have to adjust mounting lugs for the calipers with a new mounting plate.
These fit sunbeams also. best suited to Willwood or Brembo calipers
If you are looking for a 260x22mm disk E30 BMW work also, I used to machine these down to 258mm for princess/volvo calipers.
Rally Design part number: BM067
not sure which of these 2 is the disk used in the Rally Design 285 kit but knowing RD they always look for something that requires next to no machining.
RENAULT. 21 2.0 TURBO 87/92-F 285/21 BM246
Rover 800 820, 820T; V6 86/96-F 285/21 BM092
Anyone got any idea's which it is?...i am swaying to the Renault disk at this time.
any pics of this 13" conversion.nice solid upgrade for cossie powered old skools

Well as I have decided to go with 15" wheels, have bought a nice set of RWD Cossie calipers off eBay. I have a set of 260mm Rally Design discs, so will have a look and see if I can get the calipers to work on those for 13" wheels, while I am playing with them
Has anyone figured out what disc it is that Rally Design use for their 285/BD13 disc, as I may be able to get them locally, or are there any other Disc options I can use on the Cossie Caliper conversion for my Capri struts

i think they are 2.8 capri ones ? not sure wot i ordered when i rang ?
Thought the 2.8i ones were 247mm
Did some measurements on the RD 260mm ones that I already have:
1: Hub hole (disc centre) 68mm
2: mounting bolt PCD 92mm
3: disc thickness 21mm
4: mounting face thickness 8mm
5: total disc height (hub face to disc front face) 32mm
So basically have to find something like that, but 285-300mm in diameter

Im now pretty sure the BD13 disk is the Renault 21 Turbo disk, after finding a pic on Ebay showing the top of the disk.
bay prices are around 40quid
and then i find these pics of the Rover disks http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?p=3317323
hard to tell although the renault disk looks to have less offset

Renault 21 turbo front disk 285x21, look to have around the right offset, priced for group N at RD 51quid, BD13 replacement disks 51quid...kinda to close to be not the same.
Yeah the Rover disc has a 51.2mm offset, as seen here
A pair of the Rally design BD13 discs are £138 including vat
A set of the Renault 21 Turbo discs which would require the centre hole to be machined out to 68mm and the mounting bolts drilled at 92mm pcd for the Ford fitting, can be had from eBay for £65 or half the price
www.gulfpetrolheads.com
bob at EBC tells me they sell lots of Renault discs to rally design
Must be the BD13 drilled to suit their various Wilwood packages, wonder if EBC would sell them direct (drilled for Ford) or undrilledbob at EBC tells me they sell lots of Renault discs to rally design
www.gulfpetrolheads.com
ahha that says it all
Do they have an exclusive deal or are they willing to work with the members here on kits?
Looks like the regular Renault 21 disk is 244mm
BMW E30 260mm
Citroen BX16V or diesel 266mm
Renault 21 Turbo 285mm and possibly a 260mm disk
All will fit Sunbeams or Escorts with simple mods.
If EBC are willing they could list up fully re-machined disk prices with minimum order quantities for group buy
doubt ebc would rick a solid contract with rd for a small gb

depends how many modified 21 turbo disks he sells and if he supplies them pre modified. If he just sells disks then we have no issues...
Also RD used to use the BX16V disks and the e30 disks for escorts but no longer list them, the e30 machined down to 257 suits princess/Volvo callipers and I seem to remember the BX16V disk suited superlite callipers. The standard e30 would be good with old gp4 callipers.

Before seeing this thread I have just put 285mm Renault 21 discs and Cossie calipers on my Corsair 9with 16 inch wheels). Home made brackets. Very good results. Using National brake disc catalouge their number is NBD596 2.0 Renault TXi year 89-92 as has been said open out the centre hole and drill four more holes to fit Ford hubs other dimensions the same as Capri Injection. Other Renault 21 use 5 studs so make sure you get 4 stud ones. Paul
Ok I have done the above and the brakes work great...But I have used a .875 master cylinder. When you apply the brakes the pistons move out and clamp the pads but when you take your foot off the pistons retract off of the pad by less than 1mm. When you reapply there is a small amount of pedal travel. Now all is bled correctly no air. A friend has suggested that the size of the master cylinder piston may be pulling fluid back and therefore pulling the pistons back as well. Strange but it sort of makes sense. Anyone with any ideas out there? As a temporary solution I have made up some ally shims between pad and piston but with wear it will come back. Paul
Yeah your front master cylinder is too large, try using .625" for the front calipers as Clint suggested
If anyone is interested I can supply modified 285 x 21mm plain discs read to bolt onto your front hubs, same as the rally design items but cheaper, current RD prices are £120 for the pair + vat, £144 + delivery, I can do them for £139.95 including delivery to UK and Ireland, also soon I am going to design a fitting kit with brackets and bolts to fit cosworth calipers for a reasonable price, send me a message if interested, rwdfords@hotmail.com

We can modify a variety of discs to mount on the back of the hubs as per normal and with the rear face of the disc in the same position as a std 2.8 capri disc to clear the steering arms and give plenty of clearance to the wheel spokes on the outside, some of the rear mount disc sizes are:
260 x 22mm, 266 x 22mm, 285 x 21mm, 285 x 26mm and 300 x 26mm, most available grooved
Can also do front mount discs such as BMW E34 302 x 28mm but they have the disc positioned further out towards the wheel spokes and more than likely need some 8mm wheel spacers for clearance
Will be working on a new front brake upgrade soon with 300 x 26mm discs and alloy 4 pot calipers from a high powered car
Let us know what you need and we will more than likely be able to sort you out

I am now using a Peugeot disks £30 a pair then my lolcal shop enlarges the center and drills the 4 holes for £30 the pair, same brakets in this thread

Are 4x4 callipers and pads the same as 2wd pads?
No, 4wd calipers are single pot, 2wd are 4 pot, pads are also different
