RETRO Motorsport
Don't do itDom!!
I've got a few projects on the go at the minute and I know what it's like to have no time/inclanation to do anything!!!
Do what ever you have to mate but if you can put it away to one side for a while, I'm sure once you have sorted yourself out, you'll be gagging to get back on it
Plus, I want to see you kick Gaz's butt away from the lights
Cheers
Dazzle
Cleaned, de bracketed, stripping started ready for some more panels, some stitch welding and strengthening at the bulkhead joints
Oh and a little look at Garys OCD - you cant even see this section as its all covered by a false floor/pedalbox arrangement
Does this mean shes a keeper???? pray:
glad your back on it dom, and surely if you loose motivation you just have to look at garys work, you cant let it go to waste or for someone else to drive it
Good keep at it dom, before you know it it will be done and you either wont want to sell it because it rocks, or if you do sell it it will make big bucks because of what it is (ie finished spec)
Glad to see you are going to keep it Dom , and your getting stuck in working on it , and adding to Gary's great work .
There seems to be a lot of holes in all that new metal...was that to save money?
GET ON WITH IT!, should be worth a few bob when up and running.
p.s
My nan used to own one of them Chevettes
Get back in the Garage and play with your Starlet
Progress
We picked up a Lathe yesterday, free from work
I love free tools just needs a clean up and setting up properly
Well after fitting the seat in the car and sitting in it.....
My nice new pedal arrangement doesnt work even with my Short Legs which I had always worried about.....
And yes Gary we did try them all the way forwards accounting for the short AP cylinders and it still doesnt work
So we looked at it for a while, (I swore a lot ) tried a few different Ideas and came up with some possible solutions and some very trick solutions and then left it alone and carried on Stripping
All in all with painting the barn, winning a Lathe, Getting Andys escort transported, Kadett engine out and bay stripped, its been a rather productive couple of weeks all in
Big thanks to Andy and another shout out to Charlatan1 who is lending me back the pedalbox I sold him : to see if I can make that solution work with the curent floor arrangement ;D 8-)
Watch this space ;D

Forgot to ask
What the "Worm poison" that everyone uses to get rid of the under paint Rust spiders ?
The shell is generally very good but I want to treat whats there before etch priming it
Cheers
Dom
"kurust" mate halfords sell it
I've got a complete peddle box from a tvr tuscan sat in my shed if its of any use to you mate???
P.s engine bay looks bufty
Was that with you still sitting with your nose on the wheel.. as i had a seat in there and i could get on the pedals.
Take a pic of you sitting in the car .....
Nope in the position they were in and the seat back hard up against the cage I still had knees wedged under teh wheel and wheel to far away
The relationship between wheel seat and pedals isn`t right, I know I can move the wheel/Column but the seat still ends up way back hard up against the Diagonal, I can go down on seat height but it still doesnt solve the problem
I`ll get some pics next week when I am back up there but if I want it to be driveable by me let alone anyone your size (Which is still a requirement) then something needs to change.......
At the moment I have a Top hung Chevette/kadett pedalbox on its way to me to see if it will still work now the column has moved and the floor has come up
and I am busy drawing up a new Pedal arrangement using some trick single pivot Brembo master cylinders I have "In stock"
2 options at the moment are overhung reverse with the small cylinders tucked up behind the dash
and floor mount reverse with the small cylinders remote mounted under the false floor
OK some pics to update
Carried on paint stripping and wirebrushing to get rid of the small surface rust spots
Also cleaned up the welds in the engine bay where we have clearanced the chassis rails
Oh yeah and made a small "Dave Roberts" incision too
From under the inner wing it looks like this:
I am amazed at how good the metal work is under here and although its taking longer I am glad I am sorting it now as had I left it another year or so It would have been so much harder to put right again, also times like these I`m glad I bought a Kadett and not an Escort
Oh and heres a General Tidy bright barn shot...... with Phoenixescorts Zetec`d Mk2 keeping it company
Going back up tomorrow to get a good day and a half on it, need to get some shelving up and my Stuff/parts tidied away then crack on with the new Pedalbox design from scratch as the works copy overhung one now doesnt work with either the new column position or the False floor
Cheers
Dom
looking smart dom!! glad youve got the bug back for it. deff keep the pics coming, cracking car!
Dom, i rested a base mount seat in there, and was comfy, will admit the steering wasnt fixed. I just had it where i felt comfy, a quick re-lease and a deeper dish or pull the shaft further into the car would move the wheel to the right position
