i left a full packet of fags on the floor just to the left of the pillar on that picture by accident, went back 5 mins later and they were gone.
did you go over the bridge of sighs into the old prison cells they were well scary! some of the palace rooms were sports hall sized and open plan, not bad considering they didnt have steel portal frames in renaissance italy.

Now I know why the pigeons in the square were dive bombing eveyone, it was to cover up their cigarette stealing activities.
We were very impressed with the architecture and buildings in Venice. It's the only place we've ever walked round in a circle (with the aid of a map!) while trying to find something. The maze of small streets was well - amazing
its an amazing place, every corner you turn looks like a postcard or a painting. its unspoilt and nice not to have cars pollution etc. it was so good i got 800 pics in 4 days! did you find campo san barnaba which is the church/library off indiana jones and the last crusade?

Yes we did go there but I didn't realise the Indiana Jones connection.
Having just come from Rome (mad place overun by tooting cars) Venice was blisfull. I would reccomend it to anyone as a short break destination. Can't vouch for it in high season, we were there in May and it wasn't too crowded.
Would reccomend getting a taxi (boat) back to the airport though, big burbling V8 (sounded like) going very slowly through the narrow streets then once our onto the lagoon VROOOOOOOM, felt like 1930's film stars and 15 min latter your standing in the airport.
rome is another favourite of mine, we went there last xmas and theres so much to see and do it is overwhelming, i cant wait to go back there. i can recommend the freelance tour guides in rome (usually americans in their 20's) they are pretty cheap and give you an interesting insight into whats going on, rather than looking at a load of old ruins and piles of stones that wouldnt mean anything otherwise!
god knows how the ancient romans had such good craftsmanship and engineering skills with the limited technology. in this country at the time the brits were still living in mud huts!
the pantheon in rome is breathtaking, the only 100% intact roman building from antiquity in the world, all the original marble panelling etc on the inside is still there and it dates from about 200AD i think. one of the less famous buildings but is so amazing and means you can see how all the others would have been fitted out before they got torn apart by the barbarians from the north!

Having been to Italy a couple of times now I can see where they get their air of laid back superiority from. They have "Been there, done that" with regard to almost anything we did over a 1000 or more years later.
They did the conquering other people and continents, built massive monuments and even motorways (sort of), set up a functioning society etc etc a long time before us. (I suppose the Egyptians did it even earlier - but I don't know what happened there?).
And of course they have arguably the best cars on the planet (waits for withering attack RSOC BB style).
Wolfie I have been to the IOW several times and liked it a lot. When the suns out and glinting off the sea it's wonderfull.
We were there on August Bank Holiday in a borrowed car and expected the traffic to be horrendous, but we forgot about the ferry costs. It was lovely driving round with so little traffic.
I'm not that travelled at all. The pics your seeing are from my only to major trips ever, and they were both in the last six months. Before that I had only been to european countries by car.
