The reason for lack of updates on mine and David Whites car, is that during the off season we have been doing a little upgrade on a friend of ours race car.

Re: Ex Mini Challenge R53 Cooper S
To get the weight down, Perspex has been installed all round, the complete dash removed, the extinguisher repositioned for better weight distribution, a smaller battery installed, the existing wiring loom removed and a new one installed.
The exting control units have been removed which meant all the abs is now redundant. This then meant re plumbing all the brakes, with an inline pro portioning valve to the rears.
The engine is now controlled via a DTA S40, but the biggest headache for me was the fly by wire throttle set up, but Allan at DTA came to the rescue. To remove more weight , we have even removed all of the complete dash set up.
We are hoping to have the car ready for the 1st race of the season at Brands on the 24th March

Re: Ex Mini Challenge R53 Cooper S
can i ask what series this R53 is being raced in now? is it competitive and what is itusuallycompeting against? I am vaguely considering one for CSCC Deutsche Marques (40 min races for one or two drivers).
How robust are they as racecars and what are they like todrive?Comment

Re: Ex Mini Challenge R53 Cooper S
i've raced against several different challenge spec ones in my class, even in that spec they are competitive, in the dry i usually beat them, its far tougher to do so in the wet, and once lightened (they are very heavily little cars) with a bit of tuning should go like stinkLast edited by Graham; 21-05-2012, 16:06.Comment
