Re: Peugeot 206 silhouette race car

Yeah im all good thanks. After a good start qualifying 9th and some good close battles in the first race it all went a bit wrong in race 2. After 2 or 3 laps the car cut out leaving me coasting safely into the pits, or so I thought. As I turned off the track into the pit lane the car started to fill with smoke and by the time id rolled to a stop at the marshalls post inside the pits the car was completely full. I got out ok but it wasn't a pleasant experience.

Its a bit of a mess. It seems like most things behind the firewall have had it unfortunately along with the rear bumper.

Im not 100% on the cause but the best theory I have is that some fuel had made its way out of the tank breather onto the rear bumper and the undertray and as the tailpipe of the exhaust had fallen off earlier in the race a pop of flame on the overrun ignited the fuel.

Andy Woods Deans' car did exactly the same right in front of me last year! Let me know if I can help with anything.

Cheers Nick, i think it also happened to Lewis Smith in the intermarques last year. If you ever needed a reason to put a one way valve on your tank breather , this is it.

Cheers Jezz, yeah all back together and looking white again rather than black!

Theres lots of bits ive had to replace and not had had a chance to go testing so fingers crossed it all works ok.

                      How come you're not out?

I have lost a bit of enthusiasm for it tbh ,seems I put loads of work into it ,then it gets smashed up ! ,I won't race @ Lydden again ,I killed 4 tyres there last time ,it works out an expensive meet then
Good luck for the weekend ,I guess it's going to take a bit of time to get back to where you were

I know what you mean, sometimes feels like you're banging your head against a wall.
Somehow lydden seems to be harsh on tyres without being very grippy.

My car was crap round there ,just wouldn't turn in and it is too bumpy ,the car was hitting the bump stops and bouncing all over the place

It is a funny place, they did talk about resurfacing a while ago but i dont suppose they could warrant the cost. I guess the advantage your car has is carrying more corner speed than most but there isnt the opportunity to do that so much at lydden.

I think it should have gone better than it did but it just wouldn't turn in , then when it did especially around chesspns it was just jumping across the circuit where the suspension had bottomed out , I did hear some of the intermarques were bottoming out too
