After a few minor issues she was ready for the first competitive outing at oulton park.
Like I said previously it was a bit disastrous, but it got a few people talking

Focus running in the tin tops

Well after a solid month on the drift car and the race season looming I thought I best get back on the focus.
Found out that the dog box is completely shafted, the circlip on the end of the main shaft had broke allowing 5th to slide around and had a knock on effect on the rest of the box.
You can see where the lug broke that locates the circlip on the shaft.

You can also see where a nice bit of metal went between the pinion and cwheel.

Unfortunately the box and parts are obsolete so I've had to buy a synchro kit from quaife, hopefully it will hold together with the new engine!
Have started to prep the engine bay ready for when the lump and box arrive, had the subframe powdercoated etc

Focus running in the tin tops

Ill start this reply with a bold statement. Don't ever buy anything from quaife if you want it to fit in a gearbox, the quality of their finished product is disgusting, have they not heard of quality control?
To get their kit to fit in an mtx casing was a nightmare the main shaft was 16thou longer than the other meaning we had to machine 8 thou off each taper bearing and shim the lay shaft bearings just to get the right amount of preload. Then we had to machine the diff and spark erode the crownwheel to get them mated. Aaaaaaaarrrrgggghhh.
              Rant over.
Box is now done a big thanks to Steve at SP components/tracsport for his time and perseverance.
Engine is nearly there Alan crankshafts are just finishing machining my crank.
Pistons and rods are made, billet flywheel and AP 5 1/4 clutch turned up the other day. Head work is done we've fitted bigger exhaust valves and cut the new inserts and seats. Throttle biddies are here ecu is at pectel getting a new battery and the mountune map wiped, camshafts have now been machined and all the sundries have arrived.
The engine should be built up and on the dyno at the end of next week..........
              Snetterton on the 14th...

Is it a fucked rose joint been hitting the top mount? Crusty thread or a worn piston on strut? But that might be a shadow?

Focus running in the tin tops

Now on holiday so finally some time to write a bit about the car.
After a slow start to the season with 2 dnf's due to electronic master switch issues, I feel we are slowly getting on top of things. It turns out the alternator couldn't cope with the demands of the pas pump and the fans which in turn cut the master switch out when the battery voltage dropped.
A new higher output alternator was fitted and for precaution we've been charging the battery between practice and the race and it seems to be fine now.
The first race of the year was at brands and we only got the engine back on the Thursday night before the weekend, we worked through the night and managed to get to brands just in time for the afternoon test session the car turned about 20 laps without many troubles.
We knew the setup was ok from oulton park last year so checked it all over and put it to bed ready for the Monday.
We went out in practice and the car felt pretty good I went first did 5/6 laps then handed it to Tom my brother who did another 5.
When I came in we were on pole I couldn't believe it.
Tom had a tragic start bogging down on the line and by the end of the first lap he was 9th . Fortunately he's pretty quick so got himself up to 5th, then the cambelt snapped a leaky cam cover causing the belt to delaminate and in turn the exhaust cam snapped spanked all the valves and scuffed a piston.
                          Back to the drawing board!
Here's a few pics at brands.
