When I get an idea in my head, I just have to do it!
When's your beauty out next?
Is that me Lee? If it is, I am 100% going out next year. Finished the house, setting up the carbon and working full time has been a hectic year and rallying didn't get a look in!!
impressive, so much dedication to motorsport, RWD as well! love it! it's a shame the rules keep changing, anyone would think the organisers would be pleased/proud to have so many folk put time and effort into this type of sport, but they obviously have more money than most so i suppose it does not matter?
do the rwd metro's (rv8's? something like that?) still race in a certain class? I know they are probably very thin on the ground, along with the other models of this era.
Metro 6R4??
The classes all go by engine capacity, doesn't matter what car it is or how many driven wheels.
That's the front end wide tracked...
Rix eccentric top mounts, rack extensions and adjustable lower arms. Has gained me 1" overall track, not quite as much as I'd like but I can't afford the grp4 adjustable top mounts at £300.
Well we made it back in one peice from a successfull rally over on the Isle of Man. Iv never driven the car in such bad conditions, if I had a jet ski that would have been the better option!
First time over there for me and mike and first time doing a closed road event, it was awesome! Felt just like the days when I was road rallying, the rush of the hedges and tree's coming past you was unreal!!
The first stage started pretty well, getting a feel for the car again. Lots of standing water kept us on our toes then we got caught out as we came around a 4Left to find the escort in front has dropped its gearbox oil which caused us to lock up in all shapes sliding past the slot 9left into the run off area with a stall, cost us about 15secs with it not wanting to start again. Towards the end off that stage we hit thick fog on the mountain road which was hard going with it being so fast up there!
Stage 2 & 3 were only about 4 miles using the first half the same and the finished in differenct places, stage 2 we clawed a bit of time back and stage 3 saw us 11th fastest beating Cole by 3 secs.
Stages 4,5,6 were repeats of 1,2&3 but as we got to 5&6 we were told to return to service as there had been to many accidents this cost us quite badly because 5 was scrubbed which was more suited for us and the car and star 6 we got given a nominal time of 3:10 which was 24secs slower than our first run through, but the first 20 or so cars got there actual times for this stage meaning they would pull much more time from us! :-(
Into the afternoon the stages were much faster and not so much standing water (we thought!?) 7,8 were using the coast road of marine drive then onto some main roads for a few miles, with the car only geared to 116mph it felt like we were loosing a lot of time sitting on the limiter. Stage 9 was the one that caught everyone out so much standing and running water in places you couldn't see, if was constantly coming up onto the screen and dragging the cars off everywhere, stage 10 there was a long delay with John stone going off in his R5 but it eventually ran then it was back to service to soak some water up out the car and refuel, we were told that stages 13&14 had been cancelled as we were running out of time so it was just 11&12 to do which were just a repeat of 7&8, going into these we were sitting 3rd in class by only a few seconds ahead of 4th, looking at the previous times we had been taking 2-3 seconds out of each other here an there, the last stage they took an impressive 14 seconds out of us given them 3rd and dropping us to 4th in class and 16th overall.
All in all we had a great weekend, if only we had another 100 horse and 6 speed sequential like our competition then maybe we would stand half a chance! Can't wait to get over there again!
Here's one video from the weekend, if I can get some uploaded in decent quality il put the links on here.
Awesome job... Video class. To finish first -first u must finish.... Well done long stage v slippy, pat on back.
How's the wide track front end, is it wider than rear, the same or less than rear width? Different to drive in good or bad way?
The car felt stabler, and much pointier on the front which gave me a lot more confidence. The rear is still a bit wider than the front. I need to look into the back end a bit more... It's still quite skitty on the bumpy stuff and doesn't stay planted. I'm hoping a set of 3ways might help that also
Try and run a bit more weight in the boot, there isn't as much overhang on the mk3 compared to the mk2.
A good start to the year for us, 11th overall and 2nd in class at the Brean stages at Weston super mare, cracking 2 day event, nice and relaxed. New suspension felt good, traction was very poor as it was so greasy!!
This result secured us 2nd maximum points for the HOE championship.
Only 8 weeks to go until the next event, and Iv decided to sell my dog box whilst it's still fresh and hopefully upgrade to a sequential
Here's a video of stage 6, it had started to dry a little
7th overall and 3rd in class.
Cracking day, great venue.. We were sitting 6th and 2nd in class most of the day but the last 4 stages had to much fast stuff for the car and we lost a few seconds on each to juey jones... Slight issue with the Ecu bringing the limiter down lower at 6900 rpm.
