    2.0 Duratec Tarmac Mk2 Escort

Ive been using this site for a while to help with my build and I guess its time to give something back. There are loads of images but here are some of the highlights> Original car is a 1980 2dr which had a 2.0 red top in it running 5th at Mull by the MacKenzie clan until the engine failed and it sat about and changed hands a bit until last year still broken down. The shell was pretty good so every single item was removed and either sold or binned. New spec is growing and changing but is Paul Gardiner 2.0 250bhp duratec on jenveys and DTA s40. Tractive 6spd gearbox with matched prop and a DEN Motorsport Atlas and god knows the spec of that but I will be fine. Most stuff has been Ralloy and the best I can afford elsewhere. Fabrication and custom cage done in Aberchirder by Blacklaw Garage. Look them up as I was happy with the service and support. Arrival image engine bay before stripping out stripped and on way to fabricator floor done and fabrication making progress dry sump in wing from ralloy still loads to do rear tub and diff tunnel tractive arrives engine arrives after going to mull to buy and remove some tilton goodies from the USA collection day from fabricator note the ralloy tractive mounting kit, OMP wheel corsa b EPS and raised floor for Tilton pretty much the way it is today

Current tasks are plumbing the dry sump in but using a Laminova rather than a traditional air cooler. Getting oil up to temperature appears to be just as important as keeping it there. The 'money pit' paul alex car on here helped me a bit with ideas but im on the other side of the bay to him. My dry sump pump, tank and cooler are all in the same place so ill be keen to post that when ive done it. Hope you enjoy yet another mk2 build!

Thanks. it looks a bit scruffy just now but the shell is very good underneath and obviously there is very little left which hasn't been replaced or upgraded. Even the old heater bubble was replaced to keep it looking sweet.

No where near as scruffy as my escort van was. And my other shell hasn't got a floor in at the moment. Yours is looking very respectable.

Im sure its a Pace system but it came with the engine so im not 100% sure. I really liked the Raceline one but after an engine that suited me came up not far away for the right price I decided not to build my own.

So here is an image of the front wing mounted dry sump tank which has a catch tank in the top. You can see the dry sump pump down below so its all local to each other. the plan is to fit the Laminova in the oil return line from the pump to the top of the dry sump tank which should be easy enough. Ill need to change the outlet on the radiator to a 90 degree to the drivers side and then I can plumb the coolant down to the bottom of the Laminova with a 180 degree taking the coolant back up through the Laminova and then plumb it back into the water rail with a water temperature boss in the line. Then fit some brackets onto the Laminova to fix it onto the side of the radiator flanges. Roughly Like below. and here is an image of the engine in the previous mk2 escort rally car to see the area in the bay 'normally wasted'.

So some plumbing parts arrived and the -12 fittings for the oil circuit on the Laminova as it was -8 when I got it from a Caterham application. I have ordered a 90degree bend for the bottom of the laminova as a 180 hose off the bottom looked rubbish. I was surprised you can get them but found out that they do them by pure chance so ill fit that when it comes down the bottom which will let me complete the circuit back to the top of the radiator. Scary how little braided hose is needed as id say its less than a 30cm in total. I used some spare hose and now have 1.5m of brand new -12 hose left. I invested in the Torques -12 spanner and vice thingy. The vice thingy is well worth it actually. Gutted about the use of scratched -12 fittings but they came with the engine and a £30 each I couldn't not use them. Looks like I can make a mount for the Laminova on the strap that holds the dry sump tank onto the wing/holder so that's working out nicely.

Car is looking good mate, some nice fab work getting done to it. I almost bought this from ogg mackenzie a couple years ago, it had been lying for a few before that aswel.

                              look forward to the updates
