    That looks very nice

You should be able to enter a road legal class if its mot'd and insured. Then u wont have to worry about being fully compliant to the blue book.

You can check the Msa website for exactly whats required.

cheers fella, Spoke to a fella in the club i was gonna join and he said that i would have to run in modified production as i had no rear seats.

..........not worried what i run in as long as i can use it as is :-)

I did a couple of sprints in my escort with the Tunbridge Wells Motor Club and had to go in the 'Sports Libre' class as it has a vauxhall engine but im sure there were cars in the road going class that were stripped out. I guess each club probably has its own rules for each class but i found them very helpful and keen to get me sorted.

Thats lovely! You wont be in Sports Libre unless you've swapped the engine for something never intended for use in an Escort, or substantially modified the chassis and altered mounting/pickupnpoints for the suspension etc.

You'll be fine in Mod Prod I would have thought.

yeah mod prod, if your suspension mounting points are original, put the interior back in and you can move to road modified. mod prod is ok but it tends to be slightly more powerful and lighter cars as they don't need to be road legal

Cheers fellas, the car is now turreted so not sure if that's allowed in the mod prod class.
I'm not worried about collecting any trophies I would just like to use it for some competition use. The track days are good but you can't beat a bit of competition to push yourself a little more :-)

should be able to, mod prod allows you to move suspension mounting positions providing the original suspension type is retained, i.e. live axle

You can't change the spring type so have to have leaf springs to run in mod prod.

Re: What sprint/hillclimb class do i run in?

It's a good Q from the OP, & I think increasingly something alot of folk face. The growing no's of modded track day cars and so on are finding themselves legislated to Sports Libre by virtue of some fairly common mods.
I'm in the same boat as the OP due to my 3dr Sierra having a V8 & carbon roof among other things.
There's no way I'd have sports Libre pace when you look at some of the stuff that runs in that class!
However I do share the OP's enthusiasm in the sense that 'I don't care what class it is as long as I can turn up and have some competitive fun'!
It does seem a little odd that some cars like ours are still road legal, but would be in the top race class. I guess that's what happens when you (we) build what we want to drive first & foremost, then try to find an area of Motorsport to race in.
It makes me wonder whether classes could be greatly simplified down to basic production shell (vs space frame) and simple power to weight? Having said that I imagine this topic has been done to death, so I'll get 'me coat..

                          Cheers
                          Iain

really, if you want to compete in a motorsport event, you need to be building the car to suit the regs, not building a car, trackdaying it and then trying to enter a hillclimb at which point you will be promptly shoved into sports libre because you haven't looked at the rules prior to building the car

Kee, I agree however, it can often take someone several years to build the car of their dreams and put it on the road and also enjoy it on some track days as well, but then decide they'd like to go a step further only to discover their car would end up against 500kg space framed purpose built race cars.
You'd have to admit it looks a bit harsh racing a 30-40yr old rd car against something like that because of an engine swap!
I'm about to do something similar (again) with an RS1700T rep by putting in a CA180DET engine. The reason I'm using that - £400 for engine, box, ecu & wiring - not because of any great race engineering on my part - just economics at the time.
                              Cheers
                              Iain
