Hello great build keep at it it will be worth it, why are you using 2 back boxes, just wondering.Comment

Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car
The early works cars had 2 rear boxes. I wanted to run a large bore exhaust for future power increases ( possibly even turbo) plus I know it's a little heavier but it does look pretty swish. The difference between men and boys... is the price of their toys!!!!Comment

Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car
Exhaust is finished now and has been removed and stored ready for final build. I will put the front section back on again to build the manifold when I pre-fit the engine. But for now I have moved onto something else...The difference between men and boys... is the price of their toys!!!!Comment

Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car
The Alluminuim box section I ordered arrived the other day and I could not resist having a play with the TIG on AC. I know I should have carried on with the shell but these are all jobs that will need doing. I made up this wheel carrier. The idea of 2 pins as stays is I am still not 100% sure 13" or 15" wheels and this system accomodates them both. Just need to put some anker points in now for the rachet straps..

Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car
Nice idea
Could you not get it lower though a heavy thing to have so high in the carHexham and District MotorclubComment

Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car
I could get it so the it fits flat on the rear dif tunnel but it would only work with 13" wheel and I may still go to 15" The major thing is though, where it is the whole thing comes out through the rear hatch easily. Any other position would place it lower than the rear fire wall and you would need arms like Popeye to stetch in and lift it out.... Nice thought though... Thanks. The difference between men and boys... is the price of their toys!!!!Comment

Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car
Nice build. It takes me back to the days when I rallied a group A 1600 TI, forest rally entry fees were just about affordable and summers were dry and sunny (well, sometimes).Comment

Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car
The good old days when the grass was greener, the summers were longer...... There's a song in there somewhere!!!! I long for the day I need to worry about entry fees..... Seems to be taking for ever... Life so busy I don't get enough time to really crack on..... Fingers crossed for 2015...The difference between men and boys... is the price of their toys!!!!Comment

Re: Sunbeam Tarmac Rally Car
Busy day today as I started to make the roll cage and fitted the Navigator front seat rail.
Making the roll cage was a nervous time. I borrowed a bender and screwed it to the decking in the garden. Started by measuring and remeasuring to draw an accurate outline of the interior of the car.
Set up for 1st bend... scared.
