    Talbot sunbeam

Ive been trying to buy this car for a year or two and the guy finally decided to sell it so i did a 240 mile trip on saturday to pick it up, i had already given him a deposit before seeing the car, he told me it was a bit shabby but it turned out better than what i thought

I bought it as a rolling shell, it has everything still in place for a pinto but the wiring and engine mounts are a bit of a mess so first job is to sort that out, im hoping to get it ready for the Barcud rally in August, theres a classic car run at the end of june that id like to take it to but i think thats being a bit optimistic , heres a few pics of how it looks now

the plan is to use it as a road rally car , the underneath is mint and its a very strong shell so i may get it msa log booked by the end of this year

    Re: Talbot sunbeam

Ive spent a few nights working on it now, i fitted a pinto and im sure the mounts were welded up by a blind man!! It was leaning to one side and leaning back, anyway after rewelding the mounts and modyfiyng the sump and pickup pipe i fitted the engine, all looked good until i fitted the bellhousing , its so close to the arb and steering rack that the starter wont fit, i think this is why the engine was at such an angle. Im not sure if i can lower the rack or run with out the arb. The entry form for barcud rally has been sent tonight so ive got until 3rd of august to get it ready

Cheers Matt ,ive lifted the engine by about an inch and now it fits as it should so now i need to get a cheap flywheel from somewhere just to see if the engine runs or not! Im trying to get it on the road as cheap as possible for now and do it up as i go along ( could do with better suspension, paint) and to be honest i dont know if i should bother fitting this pinto, it will probably cost £100-£150 to get it running and for less than £100 i can get a complete ford twincam to drop in and they are a bombproof reliable engine that will keep chugging along, i just dont know what to do

When i was a kid i was a passenger in one of these, a citroen AX 'T boned' the passenger side door, the AX was a complete write off, the talbot only suffered a small dent in the door

                              Re: Talbot sunbeam

Decided to pull my entry for the barcud rally and concentrate on building the engine and paint the car, ive decided to fit a c20xe because its easy , looks tidy and reliable

phil nichols will be building a decent spec head for me and ill manage the bottom end, standard crank and rods, arp bolts , autosprint deep pocket pistons , lightened flywheel , head will be ported/skimmed , 270 newman cams with short exhaust cam and distributor will be blanked off

i think it will be running on a megasquirt ignition/injection ecu (not sure yet which version,

So today i started to pull the car apart ready to be painted, didnt get a lot done but so far no rust
